I had my 3.1 rom for my 600 and sadly it wont work all i get is a black screen.
I have followed the instuctions and even chacked it if was all ok and it was.
If i put my 2.05 rom in it works no problem.
I think the rom is DOA but maybe there is a way to sort this out
where did the 3.1 rom come from? how old is it?
I had the same problem with a 3.1 Rom that had been burned in EEPROM Burner, it worked for some time and then I sent it to a friend to use and all they got was black screen.
He sent it back and I tried on mine and it was indeed dead :(

well it looks like a copy rom, can you ask the seller for your money back and return the item to him?

The 3.1 ROM will probably work - this is quite a common one and we've seen it before on here.
With the A600, you have to wait for the device timeouts of the PCMCIA and IDE after the ROM swap, as the new ROM will be looking for a non-existent hard drive.
Leave it for a minute or two and it should reboot to the kickstart screen.
Just noticed its come a long way - maybe Airport scanner killed it?
Oh, and watch out for the socket size! The ROM socket has two more pins than the actual ROM, not only do you have to put it in the right way, you need to align it correctly too, otherwise you'll end up destroying the ROM.
