More dodgy sellers :(

Just my luck, I come across another bar-steward of a seller.

This time he USED to be regular of Amibay, but has since left the Amiga scene.

I go in contact with him about 6 weeks ago via email as he was selling off his Amiga hardware on eBay. Anywho, struck a deal on a piece of hardware, paid for it THE SAME DAY....

...5 weeks later it STILL has not arrived. Now I get the story that it went to the wrong address and is on its way back to him.... (how did it go to the wrong address??? Why has it taken FIVE weeks to head back home??? What was it DOING at the wrong address for over a month??? Has it been opened??? Is it still working???), where upon he will have another go at sending it (great, another month waiting.... and he had to wait exactly 5 minutes for his money - 5 weeks ago).

Sufficed to say I dont believe a word of it. I simply believe that the seller in question had his cash and then kept putting off sending my item until he eventually got sick of my emails.

Anywho, let this be a warning to anyone considering dealing with certain former Amibay members - DONT.

i once sent a parcel to the wrong address (apparently my 7 looked like a 1) it took 2 weeks to get to it's destination, then 4 weeks at a depot then 2 weeks to get back to me (8 weeks total)

i had refunded the guys money before the item got back to me, i got in touch with the original buyer and he bought it again, took another 2 weeks to get to him but all good in the end.

Moral, not all people are evil and sometimes things happen out of the sellers control. i guess the solution is tracking numbers

I would be looking to get a refund, did you use paypal. once you get your money back maybe you could get your item somewhere else.

That's why we write 7 with the horizontal line in the middle, to avoid such situations. Because in computers you can see the difference from 1 and 7 very clearly, but on peoples handwriting, sometimes 7 looks-like 1.

Also bear in mind, that english people working at the postal service will see the difference between those two numbers, but in some other countries, local people working at postal services might get confused.

True, this can happen.... but apparently it happened to FOUR Parcels all going out at the same time.... at no time was I ever notified (until now) and now the seller thinks I purchased a keyboard (I purchased a gfx card)?!

I usually have a good nose for this sort of thing, and I firmly believe the item was simply not posted to begin with. However, if I find I am wrong in this assumption, I will be more than happy to post an update....

Former AmiBay members are 'former' for a very good reason, usually... I take that this member was an inhabitant of our little holiday island, located just off the Icelandic cost, called Bänned....??

Hi Merl,

the fellow in question does not live in a country with english as the native tongue, and he is not banned from Amibay (although his last activity on Amibay was over 5 months ago).

Anywho, not sure if the mods need to know who the person in question is, but if they do, please PM me and I will let you know.

At this stage I feel (hope) I WILL receive the item, but that they have been very irresponsible with regards to prompt postage of an item promptly paid for. I will update when there is more news to tell. :(

To be perfectly honest, there's not much we can do to assist in a case of a trade conducted outside of our site. PM'ing the member name isn't likely to help either, so it's probably best that you keep the name to yourself.

I thought as much, but the suggestion was not to benefit me, but rather so that others could be warned.

Anywho, we shall wait and see...

If the item doesn't turn up in a few weeks, name and shame I say. So everyone is aware of who NOT to deal with.
