I will PAY someone for CF job

Hello, I do not know if this is allowed here on the forum, if not let me know:)

I like so many others have unfortunately bought pre-installed CF card from evil bay, which of course does not work, and whether it does so only for a little while
Have tried to use Winuae to set up my Cf card, but I'm probably very bad with software, but is a great Amiga games enthusiast

My question is whether anyone will take the job of setting up a CF card that works on my A500, I would gladly pay for WHDLoad and WB licenses, including for the job of setting it up.

If anyone here would take this job. then we can get back to my hardware and what you think is the right price for this job

job will be WHDLoad, with .50-100 classic games
WB3.1 and hippoplayer plus licenses and something that plays MP3s
with GVP A530Turbo 8MB RAM, if possible

I sincearly hope CF stands for CompactFlash. If so, you shouldn't need to pay a penny to anyone since setting one up yourself is 'easy as'. I have done it a while ago after a little trial and error, though i'm sure some guy and/or girl on here can help you out properly with some solid infomation, hopefully with some helpful links too.
Plus doing it yourself will be a bigger benefit since if you ever find yourself needing another CF card hard drive, you would know exactly what to do next time. :)

P.s. You'll struggle to pay MP3's on a 030 CPU even if it's rated at the maximum frequency (50Mhz). It is possible but you would need to compress it to such a degree that it's really not worth the hassle. If you ask me, you might aswell stick to PC's and iPod's for your MP3 needs. :thumbsup:

I know that it had been better, but those who can properly have difficulty getting down to a super amateur level, if you ask a professor about something, when a professor thinks that much between the lines is obvious:)

Here is a good guide for preparing the hard Drive (or CF card) under WinUAE:

You'll need ADF's of Workbench Disks to setup under WinUAE, or you can do the activation at the end on your real Amiga with actual Disks.

Once setup you can trasfer the files to your prepared CF card (attached as a HDD in WinUAE) using Directory Opus to copy all the files or shell 'clone' commands.

It's pretty easy when you get the hang of it. The main source of frustration I had is finding a setup that worked, for whatever reason UAE didn't like my Cardreader and I used an external one which worked great. After that, everything was easy. I recommend setting up something using ClassicWB in UAE and then when you're happy with your setup, use UAE to partition/format the card and then copy your setup over then plug into an Amiga.

Of course the trick is to obtain the licenses, I know Kickstart's are still licensed/sold by Cloanto, and I assume Workbench is too (they don't sell the full disks, just the boot disks for Amiga Forever, and further more licensed for only use in Amiga Forever).

Don't get your hopes up on playing MP3's using that hardware. My Amiga cannot play MP3's with a 68040 at 25mhz and 32mb of ram.:(

im with paalrosen, also interested in someone to prepare\setup couple of cards for me with OS.

willing to pay for time, licences and any software that is required.

Unfortunately while I understand your frustration, a lot of content that WHDLoad uses is still under copyright, as such its not fair to ask in open forum for someone to help you infinge that copyright.

While appreciate the data is old, no longer commercially sold or produced, it is still the law I am afraid as such in Open Forum we ask that you do not infringe on anyones copyrighted material, what you do in private is none of anyones concern.

Fitzsteve has put up a fantastic post with lots of links on how-to-do-it-yourself, so take some time and have a read, I am sure that when you give-it-a-go you will surprise yourself on how easy it can be.

I am very surprised that your 040@25 cannot 'play' MP3's, since the only real processing is the 192Kbit compression stream and then post process to 8/14bit Paula. I suspect that you have either a conflict or a setup issue.

If it helps any, fully decoding an MP3 198Kbit stream is about 5 to 6 MIPs of processing, resampling for Paula (in 14Khz mode) is about 1 to 1.5 MIPs, a stock 040@25MHz will output about 18.1MIPs

You can reduce the CPU processing time by reducing the bit-rate from say 198 to 162, perhaps even as low as 128Kbit, but thats when quality really starts to suffer

Have you played/tried with AmigaAMP?
Have you tried running the file when its stored in memory?

You can play MP3's on a stock 030@40, the problem is that they sound ghastly through the Paula sound chip. With a 16bit sound card (like a Prelude) it will use about 60% of the processing ability, going through Paula in 14bit mode will increase the processing overhead by about 20%.

Alternatively you can invest in an MP3@64 which is a clock-port MP3 off-load engine, I have one of these for my A600, it takes a few seconds to buffer, but is a great bit of kit, it does need a little modification to actually fit into an A600 or even A1200 for that matter. This device outputs in 16bit too so the only real processing done by the CPU is feeding of the bit-stream from the harddisk thus mr 68000 is very happy =D

Probably an issue with my player then, maybe the mp3's I'm playing, or a library issue. I'll have to examine this further. Thanks:thumbsup:
