A3000 LEDs

So, one of the tasks on the neverending list of A3000 repairs is to fix the LED board:

The leftmost LED is intact, but doesn't light. The rightmost one still illuminates, but as you can see, it's broken.

So, my questions are:

1. What sort of LEDs are these?
2. Where can I source suitable replacements?
3. What colours are the original A3000 LEDs?

The actual board looks pretty simple and well within my feeble soldering abilities. I just need the bits!

Anyone have any insights?

Power on the left is green. HD on the right is yellow.

Here's what I'd do. I would use hot glue to create a frosted 'window' in the outer case and fit that circuit board with minature round LEDs.

If you use Sellotape or cling film over the outer part of the case, you should be able to get a smooth frosted 'window' that is flush with the surface.

Trim off the excess glue on the inside and job done. :thumbsup:

I'd prefer to replace it with equivalent parts if possible. Hot glue would involve me buying a glue gun. Just in case I hadn't vaped enough money on this project already! Still, thanks for the suggestion, I'll bare in mind if I can't get original parts.

I had the same problem with my A3000. LED's were not the problem! PCB traces to LED's were cracked. Fixed by scraping off PCB coating to bare copper and soldering short piece of wire across break. Also, after repair check alignment of LED PCB and bracket to prevent damage when top cover is installed.

It did occur to me that that might be the problem. I might try wiring the LEDs directly to the motherboard header and see if that makes it work. It's not like it's a tremendously complex piece of electronics. Still, one LED is definitely broken and ideally, I'd swap that out for an intact one. Thanks for the heads-up.

Would you be able to use the LEDs from either an A600 or A1200 as a replacement? ( airey36 has both on evilbay )

A600 leds are smaller but a500 leds match

The LED Commodore used is a custom DUAL LED in one package. If everything else fails, you can do as Merlin told you to create a mask, then a pair of LED in the suitable colour inside, soldered directly to the LED board.
