I've been satisfied with Avast. There's a free version too.
NOD32 for me
Microsoft security essentials. its free.
Thanks guys. What would be really useful would be an option to totally disable the virus checker that you could use when the machine is disconnected from the internet, or in another low risk situation. It doesn't seem possible to do this in some virus checkers now. Can Nod32 or AVAST do this?
I use AVG Free. I believe you can completely disable it easily as well.
Heather
NOD32, right click system tray select "turn off" and it's gone
Used to always have AVG-Free but found some issues in later versions with it.
Now with Kaspersky which I get free from Barclays Bank for having an account with them.
If you are in the UK, check your online banking many banks give free anti virus software which to be honest is the absolute MINIMUM! they should give away after the recession! :)
