Accelerator card for 1200

I am just getting back into the Amiga scene (lack of a better term). I just picked up a Amiga 1200 from fitzsteve. I am looking to get an accelerator card for it. To be honest, the only thing I am going to be doing is whdload games.

What I am looking for is some recommendations on which one to get. I was looking at the aca 1230/28 but amigakit is out. I have seen some in the for sale section but seem to be overpowered for what I want to do. Trying to find that happy medium between cost and power, cost be the more important of the two. Any input is greatly appreciated.

To run all WHDLoad installed games fully your best option is an accelerator with a 68030 installed and at least 8MB of fast ram.

The ACA 1230/28 would have been perfect but as you say they were snapped up fast. you might still find some floating around on other sites or auctions.

Personally however I would still always recommend finding a good condition Blizzard 1230 MKIV with 50MHz 030 and FPU and at least 16MB fast ram installed. That will give you the best gaming performance. But it is finding one that is in good working condition and at a good price (sadly can't discuss the price here though so do some searching around the different community and sales sites to get an idea for how much they sell for).

Technology for the Amiga is sadly not mass produced anymore so even seemingly lower end upgrades will set you back a respectable amount. Not naming prices due to the rules but the ACA1230/28 is pretty much the cheapest most cost effective way to get a performance kick out of an A1200 without breaking the bank. Anything less powerful wont cost much less and you'll get less out of it.


I recommend posting a wanted ad in the wanted section, explain your clause and see what pops up. There are many many helpful people here, its only a matter of time before you find what you're after, be it an ACA1230 or something else. Buying used always saves a few pennies :)

I have a 1230 Accelerator here that is Ed's, that I am guessing he won't mind selling. It's one of those ones with the connector that doesn't have the plastic notch in the connector so you have to carefully attach the card. I think it has 16MB of ram too. Let me take a look at it. and I will see if I can identify it for you. I'm looking at it and it kinda looks like the tiny picture on Amigakit except that one looks like everything is reversed versus the card I have sitting next to me. If it's something you are interested in, let me know and I will talk to Ed and see how much he would like for it.

Well, the hunt is over!!!!! I was able to find one on another site. It is an e-matrix 030/40 with 16mb ram. I got a pretty good deal!

Just want to thank everyone who offered their help and cards. All the information was and IS invaluable!

Hopefully everything that I have ordered comes in before the holiday week-end, PLAY TIME. :thumbsup:
