Hey Ya'll!
My 40gb PS3 HDD just isn't enough these days, what sort of HDD does it take and is there a special procedure for swapping it out?
I read something about needing to do a full backup/restore or you can get locked out of the system?
My PS3 isn't modded and has the latest Firmware.

@Steve, upgrading the ps3 hard drive is dead easy mate. Takes a standard laptop sata drive.
You just remove the old one, after backing anything up you want to save, and pop in the new one. You will need a copy of your current firmware on a usb stick and it must be in a folder called UPDATE (all in uppercase letters) on the root of the stick.
Then the console will format the drive and set it up for you and then its just a matter of putting your stuff back on.
I did mine about a week ago and went from 120gb to 360gb.

Use something like that and covert the 2.5 into USB and plug it in?
Or can you not use USB to install games. I used the above for a ps2 slim. IDE to USB
Th PS3 will take any 2.5" SATA hard drive internally unlike its hot running counterpart, it doesnt need to be anything special. Just grab the firmware from the UK playstation website, bung it on a flash drive and have the flash drive in one of the PS3s USB ports when you power on with the new hard drive installed. Theres a folder structure that needs to be perfect on the flash drive for the playstation to see the firmware (don't worry it's something simple like PS3/UPDATE/firmware file sits here) but there's full instructions on the playstation site.
Take note though, if a folder name is in capitals in the instructions it must be IN CAPITALS on the flash drive!

Thanks guys, It was the Firmware bit I was worried about as I'd read you can screw that up and get locked out of the PS3 :o

the firmware bit is easy steve, just download from sony and follow the instructions..
