Wii repair: Help needed

Hey guys. Tried a Wii out with a new PSU after having a fault whereby the power light goes green, the blue light around the DVD drive lights up and stays on, but the fan isnt spinning and the DVD drive appears blocked, wont take a disc in atall, wont even go part way in as if something is obstructing the slot. Screen doesnt get a signal either whatsoever. No change with a new PSU. Anyone got any ideas what could be up at this stage? Botched update maybe? I suspect it may have been opened before, and I have all the hand tools necessary to open her up if necessary.

Possible need for a SaveMii Dongle here. Anyone got one?

Try a paperclip on the manual eject?

I'd open it up and check the drive to see if there is actually anything stuck before poking anything at it.
If you have the tools its worth a look.

Opened it up seems fine. There are 2 metal prongs blocking the DVD drive which I believe is a native mechanism, part of the Wii that usually comes up when the drive is in use.

Theres no mod chip or anything in it so its not a botched modding. I'm guessing at some kind of botched firmware update or something. But could use advice or a lend of a SaveMii or something.

After a google search I cant find anything to do with bricked Wiis that would leave the DVD drive blocked so can only assume it bricked with a disc inside and its been opened up to get the disc out afterwards.

Possible stupid question but just for the sake of it, do the fans on Wiis always come on with the system normally? Or would they wait until the CPU gets hot before moving?

This might sound silly but make sure there isnt a disk in the drive already. I bought a wii recently and it was sold with no games, I couldnt get a game in it and was stumped for a few minutes until i thought what if theres a disk already in it and there was lol (i felt like a right dumb arse haha) Scored wii sports for free though so not all bad :)

@ Acid, lol. Nice going! But sadly theres nothing in the drive atall, had it open already. Nothing I've found on the net works either...

There is actually an output on the screen now I'm trying it on a CRT TV, its like a rolling black screen with a diagonal white line... Hmmm... Any ideas anyone? I'm guessing shes bricked but this seems unusual.

Does yours actually move on booting though?

Ah this sucks... Been up all night, took her to bits everything looks fine. Put back together, same problem. :(

Done every fix on the net too, besides the replacing parts ones. Frankly I wouldnt know which part to start with, or which bit is causing it besides a possible botched ROM :lol: Possible to replace just the motherboard without any pairing issues???

Wasnt a bad purchase considering what I got with it (Wiimotes and box) but I really hoped this one was recoverable.

Symptoms more detailed for anyone interested...

• Black screen on power on; Rolling screen on CRT TVs. No signal according to LCDs. Both via SCART.

• Power light seems to function normally. Red when first turned on from wall. Turns green after pressing the button. Goes red after holding button in for 5 seconds or so.

• No DVD drive activity. Drive bezel light glows its blue colour when powered but stays on and discs cant be inserted or ejected. No noise from drive atall.

• Comes on from standby on detecting the presence of a disc attempting to be inserted but the drive still wont take the disc in.

• Wiimotes will not connect.

I would suggest at this point the use of a SaveMii dongle and a game cube controller.

Tried the Gamecube controller and an SD card with files on way. Nothing changed on screen. Would a SaveMii be any different Z?
