Adoom and Amiga Quake

Ok, so i was merrily running doom on my blizzy mkiv ever since i have upgraded to this 1260 Doom will not work, and the one time i got doomattack to run it was very very slow.

all the libs are there/setpatch loaded, maxtransfer is correct all is good with the world. When i load adoom i get this screen after selecting screen mode (it happens with any ive tried a lot)

Quake is a different story, i just get the yellow recoverable error bar when i try to load that.

Any help or suggestions appreciated (steve fails :D)

it confused me :P kinda of annoying and stressing me right out, whats the point in spending all the money on a card if i cant get it working with things

Both games are working in my 060's.

- ADoom, runs fine but I have problem to configure a good resolution.

- Quake, runs great at 800x600 16 bit, no AHI. Sometimes a bit slow, when loading data from, but overrall performance is good.

Wath versions you're using?

IMHO, all types of Doom on a 030 machine is a bit pants no matter what you do. You just end up with an FPS with a lack of FPS (poor joke I know). Unless you have a 060 I personally would not bother going to the effort of endless patches and the suchlike and only getting a result that is one step above a slideshow. Even if you did have a beefy CPU, it still doesn't play as good as the original PC platform which is to be expected anyway I suppose.

I know it's not really helpful and no doubt you will probably ignore my opinion and try anyway but if like me you grew up playing this stuff on a Pentium PC you will most likely be disappointed. I have been through the pain and it is not worthwhile. :)

ok, how are your settings with doomattack??

doomattack is a little bit faster than adoom and is really playable with my GVP 4040@40

steve is kindly setting up a cf card to see if its a software problem and not a motherboard problem so we shall see

not ignored :) and its not a case of running it as well as it would on a pc, its about running it on the Amiga and saying...cool lol

Well I don't know if my CD version is the latest one or not. But is working for sure. The only problem I have is with the screen size. All times I get only a small game screen at the left corner of my LCD :(

@Pablo,

Start game from cli and run:

Adoom -height 480 -width 640

Pick the same from the selector.

Screen will fit but it runs slow :-(

I forgot you mentioned Quake. Short answer: no. Long answer: f... er well you get the picture i'm sure. :lol: It's really only any good on PPC hardware TBH. It will run on a 060 but only just even if you clock the hell out of the CPU.

I was going to mention a certain someone who has posted endless pictures and a video playing ADoom, DoomAttack, etc. and not sutting up about how good it is on a 030. Originally that's what made me try and see if it will run as 'well' as it was described. I thought I was doing something wrong, only after a year or 2 until I saw the YouTube footage that I realized infact if anything it ran better for me. I lol'd hard when I saw it and looked like the person is enjoying it. :roll: (I'm not mentioning the name since it's really a personal opinion and I wouldn't want to stir trouble, however PM me if you want the video link).

Just to ad my own viewpoint, I wouldn't play a game that's worse then on a platform that I have easy access to at any time. Anyone who's played the SNES or 32X version and has the PC version will know exactly what I'm on about. For the sake of saying "yes I can run that!" then by your means go ahead and enjoy it, there's no reason that it wouldn't work on your setup to a degree at-least. Either way it's probably one of the better ports which isn't saying alot. :)
