A4000T. Not booting up

Hi everyone

I have just bought a 4000T, and put it all together. I am not sure on a few points though.

1) There is a small PCB that connects to the disk module, that the floppy cable plugs into. What is that for?

2) System was used with SCSI drives, and I am using IDE. Is there anything I need to do (jumpers?) to tell the Amiga not to worry about looking for SCSI drives.?

3) On power up, I get to the 2nd (I think?) gray screen. I can reset the Amiga from the keyboard, and see the power led change, but nothing else. No floppy clicks or anything.

Any ideas please. I am new to the 4000T so might have missed something obvious.

does the screen show a different colour if you remove the chip ram?

There ya go, there is a SCSI terminator built in :thumbsup:

The small PCB I have looks just like the one that says floppy adapter.

At thread:

I have installed the origional 040 card that came with it and it boots to the floppy hand screen :).

But with my CSPPC card, it's in fact the first grey screen it seems to get to. I wonder about jumper settings as well, but as far as the CSPPC manual says, J100 and J104 are both in the 'E' position as far as I can tell from the motherboard. But it's behaving the same as if the jumpers are wrong.

Can I do harm in changing these jumpers to the I position??

If the Jumpers are supposed to be on EXT then swapping them to INT isn't going to help.

Is this CSPPC working in your other A4000?

Can you terminate the onboard SCSI, i.e plug a short cable from the SCSI header to the terminator header?

Just installed a standard non PPC Cyberstorm in the A4000T and I have the floppy boot screen.

I hope my CSPPC is not dead

The board that goes between the floppy cable and the floppy drive is a rather crude fix to use a pre-made PC floppy drive in the A4000T. What makes it even more dodgy is that it only works with that make and model of floppy drive. Be careful with it, the module and the cable on my first A4000T we're very touchy (cable was literally peeling of the header and the weight of the cable would pull the board out of the back of the floppy if it go giggled too much).

If you don't have any SCSI devices hooked up, then connect the shortest SCSI-2 you have to the 50-pin connector on the top of the I/O ports module. The will terminate it and allow it to boot faster.

As for he Accelerator not working, I'd go with what everyone else is saying and try it in another A4000 if you have it. Also look in the connection socket to make sure there isn't anything gumming up the works as it were.
