SD2IEC on my 1983 C64 :-)
Ive finally got around to trying the SD 1541 emulator on my (old spare) C64 today - well tonight.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EM0qk0LpR40
The first issue was that the instructions show a late 64C which mine is not but a bit of goggling for the pin outs and armed with a soldering iron i was in business.
First impressions.
how the hell do i use it? LED's don't light up ??
Load "$",8
ahh Red LED lights up
LIST
yay some listing appear
LOAD "SD.PRG",8
RUN
And the menu appears..
>ghosts&goblins.d64<
sd.prg
sd1.prg
lotus
on and and on..
time to play and experiment but I'm playing LOTUS at the min :-)
**FITTING**
Ive decided to fit the SD reader in to the C64 and cut a slot in the back, i did think of the top but the back is better and i can see the LED's working from in between the key board keys.
First job is to elevate or insulate the sd reader, i did this by hot glueing half and SD card case (see thru type) and i snapped it in half so its not as flexible.
Hot glue the SD case to the TV modulator , lining it up near the edge of c64 case but no too near - you have to get the lid on!
Hot glue the SD reader to the SD case and wait for it to cure, then pop the case on and draw a line or measure where the SD card pops out of the case.
Drill / dremmel a slot , file the edges and test fit. its easy to make a balls up so cut and measure carefully and slowly!

I'm sure i read somewhere that someone didn't know how to wire this up to an early C64 - so I've added a simple diagram if this helps

Im playing with FIBR (zip below)

and i like it , it loads ghost and goblins for a start! the browser is slow but has more details than the one i used before :-)
