Hi :)
Got my E/Box Key today (without instructions) and before I try it, can anyone please tell me if it auto-detects the keyboard type (Amiga/PC) ?
Dont want to cause any accidental damage...
Thanks!

Hello,
1. Installing the PC Key requires quite some force. So first remove the motherboard and place it on a flat surface and then install the PC Key. Otherwise the motherboard will bend very dangerously.
2. The end of the PC Key which has the cables attached should be on the 'left' end of the keyboard connector (that is, the one closer to the motherboard's power and IDE connectors).
These are the danger bits. Autodetection between Amiga / PC will work fine :)
Thanks for the info :)
Having to use force to plug it in doesnt sound too good, I hope the keyboard plug does not get damaged (widened?) to the point of not being able to use a normal keyboard again.
it should go in quite smonthly you dont need to force it in and it shouldnt damage connector
Ok, I just tested it.
Seems to work fine with a PC keyboard, but doesnt work at all with my A2000 keyboard, which is the one I want to use with it.
Clicking any key causes the system to freeze :(
it should work wilth it

@UberFreak
Indeed it should work, and it really can't freeze the system just sending out keyboard matrix positional information (which is what it's supposed to do).
You said any single keypress freezes the system.
If you just press CONTROL, or SHIFT, or ALT, or the AMIGA keys, do the freezes still happen? Or they only happen with other keys?
I did a few more tests today.
My "test" machine is a plain A1200 KS3.0, no HDD, no expansion.
I'm booting WB3.0 from floppy & going into shell to test the keyboard.
Right after boot, only two things work in the A2000 keyboard:
1) The Caps-Lock key (light goes on/off when pressed)
2) CTRL+A+A causes a reboot
BUT, if I touch any other key (besides SHIFT/CTRL/ALT and possibly a few others) the keyboard stops responding, Caps-Lock light doesnt respond & reboot is impossible (these key presses do not show up in shell).
Sometimes it takes 2-3 key presses instead of one, it looks totally random.
I didnt get a complete freeze today (mouse pointer not moving) but it did happen yesterday.
The bottom line is, only PC keyboards work :(
hi
is you 2000 keyboard working on other machines
i use the adapter on my 1200 tower and work fine with my 4000 keyboard and pc ones
have you looked at the adapter for any damage eg tracks or the edge connector
also the edge connector might need cleaning
The keyboard worked fine with my A4000 last weekend, hopefully its still alive...
As for the edge connector, I assume PC keyboards would not work as well if it was dirty or damaged, but I'll have a close look at it later when I get home :)
