Hey guys getting deeper into workbench stuff and I decided to use winUAE to setup a CF drive for my A1200. Having done that, everything is working fine in winUAE, but upon transfering the drive to the A1200 Via a CF adaptor, the drive doesnt appear to be recognised. The HDD light comes in for a second and then it displays the purple insert floppy screen.
Anything I may have missed? :unsure: As I said it boots fine in UAE...

Did you try CTRL-A-A, sometimes with CF cards a soft reset is needed to start booting.
Otherwise did you make the partition Bootable?

Also not all CF cards work in the A1200. Do you know this card does work in the Amiga?
If it boots in winuae then the partition is set as bootable. Otherwise it wouldn't boot in winuae either.

I have a similar issue, but with a real hard drive. I put my A1200's 150gb hard drive in the PC via an IDE->CF adapter, took an image of it, then booted into it using WinUAE just to make sure it was being recognised correctly. Then booted from a Workbench floppy image, repartitioned, reformatted and installed a fresh system. The fresh system boots just fine in UAE but the A1200 doesn't want to know. The drive's accessed briefly but won't boot, and doesn't show in the boot menu.
So then I took a spare 6GB drive from an old laptop, partitioned, formatted and installed it the same way (leaving 2GB reserved at the end so as not to go past the 4GB boundary). Again WinUAE boots just fine from it, but this time the A1200's perfectly happy with it. Go figure.
There must be some subtlety I'm overlooking.
By the way, AmiNeo, did you connect the CF card to the PC using an iDE/CF adapter, or a USB card reader?
There are updates for os 3.9 to allow large drives. You might need to burn 3,9 rom to have them at boot. I always partition on real amiga using hdinstools from aminet to avoid problems.
OK now this is weird. This particular 500 meg drive was removed from the A1200 in which it had been working for years, and has now been blanked and given a clean WB3.0 install. Boots fine in WinUAE as I said, but the A1200 doesn't like it any more. It *does*, however, boot just fine in my A4000!

I tried it on a 6Gb hard drive and a 4GB CF card which has worked fine in the past. The CF card was setup through a CF reader (internal but running through a mobo USB header). Cant set up on the A1200 until I can get hold of a PC floppy drive, for the classic WB install ADF. Still waiting on Andylandy to dig one out for me :)
The bootable flag's something you set in HDToolbox, so if it boots in UAE it should be set.Quote:

Thats the odd thing, neither of them even show up in HDToolbox. Cant figure out why, but theyre perfectly accessible through Workbench and the CLI. They were formatted under windows, and the files copied across from the classic WB install hard drive file to the physical drive once CWB was setup. (HDToolbox doesnt even see the hard drive File). UAE boots from both drives just fine.
Theyre both Fat32, one is 6GB(yes, that may be a little over the limitation) and the other is a 4GB CF.
Are there any settings in UAE I should know about that perhaps I have overlooked? :unsure:
I've struggled with this in the past, but use a basic 1200 setup with 3.1 roms use an adf boot disk to load up a workbench installer or simliar and run hdtools from it. CF card set tp IDE0 then read the config set partition set maxtransfer x1fe00 save changes format!
