CSPPC and PicassoIV problem

Hey guys I stumbled across an issue that I can't solve (if it can be anywayz).
I recently got an PicassoIV (Revision 1.2) to put under my A4000.
My speccs are CSPPC/060, 128MB RAM , Buster 11, running a test environment of stock OS3.9+BB2 on a 3.5 IDE (on Primary Master) and DVD-RW (on Secondary Master). Here's the history log what I've encountered so far.

- PIV inserted on Video Slot normally.
- Power LED flashes quickly 6 times then reboots. That repeats forever!
I made a proper bath on the card in case there was a problem with the connector or anything else with no difference.
Since my CSPPC had latest revision 44.71 (private OpenPCI version) I thought of downgrading the flash to latest official 44.67. Still no joy :(

- PIV removed
Normal boot occurs like nothing happened.

- Replaced CSPPC with the stock A3630 accelerator
- Inserted PIV again
Normal boot occurs now!!! I can even enter the PIV menu holding down the SHIFT key. Only side-effect is that I can't output the signal on my Dell 17" monitor as it's normal PAL 50Hz that my monitor can't output. (I guess this can be changed later from PicassoTNG configuration right?)
P4Info outputed info just fine so I thought of flashing the latest PIV update (7.5).

- Replaced A3630 with my CSPPC
Same thing happens (Power LED flashes 6 times then reboots constantly)

As I don't have a previous experience with an PicassoIV I don't know if I'm skipping something, but I searched on the forums for similar incidents and haven't found something related to my own.

Any help will be really appreciated :help:

Anyway, Mario, do you have any other Zorro boards plugged in?

Nope I don't have any other Zorro card inserted. I did see this thread before though.

I also tried btw to boot without the HD/DVD-RW combo in case there was something that Picasso didn't like again with no difference.

Btw... (thanks to Fitzsteve) used the JP2 to force Z2 instead and IT WORKS!
Damn! I saw from P4Info that Bridge is $1 while FlickerFixer is $4.
Is there a possibility I need something newer (I remember something about an upgraded bridge on 1.2N revision board but can't recall exactly!

just putting this info here since mfilos and I discussed via msn, the latest versions of picassoIV's "components" are:

p4bi_BridgeRevision $4
p4bi_FlickerFixerRevision $7

and member MastaTabs (on EAB / .org) is the only one I know that can currently upgrade the needed chips ...

If it is any comfort, elbox pci and voodoo 3 did work with ppc a4000, I never tested a picasso or had one. I had a s3 zorro III card wich did worked with os 3.9

Known fault with Bridge rev1 in Zorro III mode and Buster REV 11 when using certain CPU's.

You could try a Buster REV 9

Tobias used to offer a replacement service for the MACH & PROM chips on the PicassoIV to bring the bridge & FliFi upto $4 and $7 respectively. You had to return your chips as the MACH chips are impossible to get hold of. I dunno if he still offers this service?

He's very busy and may take a while to respond but generally he does.

FYI : The old VGR Cybergfx site used to have a great PicassoIV resource page and thanks to the wonders of Archive.org it has been preserved

The two Xilinx PROM files for Bridge $4 are available on that archive and in theory I could reprogram them at work. So could COSMOS I believe.

Thx for the info Alexh. I think that I'll send Cosmos for the upgrade.

Yeah Cosmos mate, the CVisionPPC seems to work with the cap replacement. Although I'll need to change all SMD caps with tandalums to avoid drying them out from heat.

For the rev $7 FliFi you'll have to send the MACH chip to Mastatabs.
