Mega Midget Racer
okay I've finally got around to fitting my mega midget racer on my old A500 but ultimately it will go in an A1000 ...possibly.
Anyway here she is , freshly bought from here (thank you) and I've repaired the two damaged pins - well 3 by the time id done! how? i removed the damaged pins and soldered them back on upside down! and they work beautifully.
see pic
time to fit the Racer - oopps i don't have a crystal! i'll have to pinch one from a dead motherboard to test it.
and no ram 32bit expansion either.

update 14/10/11
A500P motherboard fitted in place of the rev5 A500 board. this move increases chip ram to a possible 2mb.Although its currently at 1.5mb.
Curiously the sys info speeds are slightly slower on the A500P board as opposed to the earlier a500 board.

update 16/10/11
40mhz crystal fitted and sysinfo speeds done :-)
mike.
SPEC:
Processor: 030@16Mhz, 030@25Mhz, 030@33Mhz or 030@50Mhz
FPU: Optional 68881 or 68882 (PGA) at the same frequency as the processor or asynchronously if a crystal is used
MMU: Yes
Max Ram: 8MB (requires optional RAM expansion board)
Ram Type: ZIP Chips
This card sits in the CPU socket of the A500 and A2000. Additional RAM can be added, providing you have the optional RAM daughterboard. Two versions of this daughterboard were made, depending on whether the accelerator was to be used in an A500 or A2000. One version had 40pins, whilst the other had 50pins. The card also includes 512K of very fast SRAM which can be configured as system RAM, or be used to cache the Kickstart for increased ROM access. These are four chips located in the top left hand corner of the board.

It's like a bigger beefier version of my 68020i, jealousy is kicking in :)
Though the sysinfo scores horrendous, I assume in the pic above it hasn't been configured properly yet?
For example my 020 @14mhz is pulling this in.

Until he adds some fast ram, he's not going to see any real improvments over stock.
When he gets that 512k going, it's a decent jump.
(As long as the code is in the 512k)
I had one with 2mb, and it did a good job, but when it went out to the 4mb I had in my data flyer it slowed down.

okay ....finally ive managed to get some jobs done..
Set up and hard drive and installed the driver disk and added 8 mb fast ram to the HD8 hard drive and configured the MMR to use its own 512k as fast ram..
here are the results
A500 motherboard specs here.

thanks guys , the pic is BW because i couldnt be bothered to plug the scart in to test and the CPU is an 30@40mhz but the 28mhz crystal is all i had kicking about :-)
its only a few weeks ago i started doing this but ive forgotten what i did!! old age!

thanks for finding it mike.

keeping it warm for you keith :-)
PS
i can see how these boards and similar ones get broken pins - ill take a pic of the little hack i did , its rough and ready but works a treat :-)
