A4000T Driving me Mad!

Well more of a rant really, but any suggestions welcome! Although I think I'm going to send the Motherboard off to Hikey to have the caps replaced and a loose Crystal replaced & soldered in place.

Anyway, as soon as I fully load my T it becomes unstable and zorro cards needs to be reseated to get it to boot else it hangs at a black screen, the problem seems to be that the Deneb isn't kicking in.

I've already cleaned all the contacts on all the zorro slots and the zorro cards.

The strange thing is I setup all the kit on my A4000D motherboard/zorro busboard and got the same issue!

So maybe this loose crystal is not the issue after all, although reseating it did get the machine booting!

It's getting pretty annoying becuse I can get it all working reliable on the table, but when back together it plays up again :thumbsdown:

I know it's not PSU related as I have tested on two PSU's and since the same issue was present on an A4000D Mobo I'm wondering if I have a zorro card on the way out, I've pulled all the cards and tested them individually and it seems to be a random issue not related to one particular card :coffee:

One thing I will say is it boots every single time with no Zorro boards...

Guess this is the joys of Amiga ownership!

Buster 11 on both boards, but Deneb is in PIO mode since A4000T SCSI is DMA Master, however A4000D has no SCSI and issue is on both setups :(

ok so it's not that then, you've tried different PSUs and reseating everything?

in what way does it become unstable? as in what exactly does it do?

If it works fine out of the case, then possibly it's not grounding itself to the case properly?

Try zorro II mode, with clean rom contents on the deneb, either by jumper or by erasing it blank with Luceferin...

I've reflashed a couple of times to no avail :( But I will try ZII Mode. :thumbsup:

Same issue was present on A4000D Motherboard outside case :(

It randomly wont boot, black screen :coffee:

Yep reseated/cleaned everything lots of times!

OFC, tested with another PSU...

I think it's going to be one of those nightmare problems :ninja:

Guess it's the long trial and error game of trying it with just a single component installed at a time until the culprit is found :thumbsdown:

are the roms moving when installing in to the case?

There is an article written by me (sadly in Polish) based on my own experience.
You can buy it. ;-)

In short:
1) repalce electrolytic caps
2) tune-up your PSU
