My A500 project

So, I finally got another A500! The 500 was my original system and I got another one (A500+) in the late ninetees. Both had an A590 hard drive and some ram expansions. I sold them together with all my boxed games and all my Amiga Format magazines (these were all the last issues from the late ninetees) around 2006 for the price of a new videogames (doh!). Last year I rekindled my interest in all things retro and 16 bit. I decided to get an A600 with an ACA630. So size wise and powerwise I was settled. Last week on a belgium website somebody offered a boxed A500 and 1084 in minty condition. So... I caved in for the price of a new video game(:Doh:). It was an 1,5 hour bus trip but it was well worth it. Both the 1084 and the Amiga are in minty condition. Only the power supply is yellowed and has a big scratch.

What I love about the minty 1084 is that it also has a regular scart port on the back so I can use it form my Mega Drive and SNES aswell. My original 1084S disn't have this.

It is a bog standard A500 with kickstart 1.2 and no further expansions.

However I already obtained an A501 from protek here on amibay and a 68010 is already underway so you can expect lots of updates in this thread:ninja:

Now get a 1.3 ROM "upgrade" (or even 3.1 on a ROM switcher) and all will be good on Earth again.

What's wrong with 1.2 ? Never had that one (only ever had a 1.3). I also have a 2.0 kickstart around but it is no ide autoboot.

General question : When you guys try to clean battery acid and use lemon juice, do you actually mean juice sqeezed out of a lemon?

That is a nice clean setup there buddy. I like the idea of a scart in the 1084 it would be very useful indeed! I didn't have one of those in my old one, but it was great for composite and rgb and output a lovely clear picture.
It was a shame to sell it in the end, if it had had the scart, I would probably still have it.

My old one didn't have a scart either (it was a 1084S) but it broke down years ago, I hope this one will keep working for a looong time!

Nice found, AFAIK getting one A500 in such wonderful condition is getting rare.

About the Scart 1084 I've got one of these also for a few bucks years ago, but due to lack of space and the fact that cosmetically was not in a good shape (at least not soo good as my 1084S was at that time) I sold it, dammit! :Doh:

That 1084 is very useful for all kind of retro gear, and saves you of being stuck to composite or Y/C for any other non-amiga gear or getting messed with one of those chips which convert composite sync used on Scart RGB gear to the separate vertical and horizontal video syncs at the DB9 RGB port used on the vast majority of 1084/s.

Even you can attach to it one of those cheap DVB-TV to Scart tuners and use it as a digital TV. :lol:

I have aquired a few 1084's over the past couple of years, and I cant beleive how small and puny they are as display units. I never remembered them being as tacky and cheap looking, with such small tubes!! Un.. real !! :lol:

Too buggy, no possibility to switch between PAL/NTSC. 1.3 is miles better.:nod:

Grab a 2.05 from a A600 (even the 37.300 does the trick) and your IDE controller (if it is a Mika/MKL's unit) will work. Don't worry, the parts that the ROM searches and aren't found will not be loaded on memory (the A500 doesn't have a PCMCIA port, for example).

Juice squeezed from a lemon fruit. You can use spirit vinegar instead.
