Problems burning Kickstarts

I have original KS's 1.2, 1.3, 2.04, 2.05, 3.0 & 3.1 for A500, A600, A1200 & A4KD's and I want to make some updated KS's for my A600's, A1200, .... but no way...

As I wrote at EAB, I'm using the next:

Willem USB GQ-4X with AD-54 16 Bit EPROM Adapter
AMD 27C400 & 27C800 EPROMs at -50 -100 -120ns, in good conditions
UV Eraser

Programmer works fine (I have made some tests) but no way with the ROM images I generated in the Amigas.

If I write any code (00, AA, Anycode) the write/verify process is 100% OK :), but with the Amiga .rom/.bin images the programmer stops after writing the first bytes.. :blink:

Maybe the GQ-X4 needs any special modified .rom/.bin image?

Maybe your 27C400 or 27C800 aren't 100% erased...

Be carefull with these type of eprom : many are very poor quality, some HK reseller refuse to sell because of that (yes, it's true !)...

Yes, they are 100% erased (all FF's) also I wrote a full 27C400 buffer with 00, AA, and some variants and everything, including verify, is OK.

I have problems only with the .rom/.bin images generated from my Amigas. these images are real 512Kb in size, but programmer refuses to write the code.

You can recommend me good 27C400 & 27C800 EPROM's? I want to buy some :)

verify the voltage for burn with tester, 12.5 or 21 volt (read on eprom the correct value)

Hi mate :)

The GQ-4X have an automatic voltage detector inside and it configures itself depending of the chip selected.

The Vpp tests of the programmer (not the EPROM) reports every voltage is working fine.

And the most "strange thing" I can programm EPROM's with any code but not with the .rom/.bin images extracted from my real KS's.... :blink:

I've had standard LPT Willem + 16bit adapter and I was very dissapointed with this...
Everything was working well for standard 8bit, but 16bit was just no-go (bad quality of adapter I used???). Even fried one 27C4100 EPROM.
So I gave up with cheap programmers and bought 200EUR second hand good quality USB porgrammer (nee was 300EUR).
No problems.

What you can try is to read your original 3.1 ROM for A500/A600 into file, check the content by hexeditor (you should find some text strings inside) and try to burn exactly this file to EPROM. If failed - you have hardware problem with programmer.

Yes, I know this GQ-4X + Adapter is cheap :D, but not the cheapest :D http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/stor...namicIndex.asp but of course is not 200+ Euro. :)

Do you recommend me one good & Amiga tested programmer? Also the best EPROMs to use with it? Any info will be very much appreciated. :bowdown:

Yes one of the test I've made is:

Readed one KS in the programmer
EPROM programmed/verified with the readed data in the buffer..
100% success

The problem still with the .rom files generated by me in the Amigas from the original KS chips..... :blink:

Are you using a 512 Kb rom with a 27C400 and a 1 Mb rom file with 27C800 ?

If you can clone KS it means that hardware is ok.
No need to buy new one. ;-) So please watch on .rom file size as suggested by Cosmos.

Already made several times...

All my images seems to be the correct size. In anyway I will try to generate this evening/night new .rom/.bin images.
