You do mean RGB scart, of course
I think I have an extra MD model 1 one, but it's not with audio breakout, so it's mono.
Ahh thats the whole point I bought a model 1 to begin with :( lol

Might have it anyways for now, picture quality on RF stinks. How much you after?
Get this one then:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sega-Genes...item2eb79befc2
It's the one I use and it's great :)
If not, then I may have a composit scart, that you can have for postage.
But... If you're paying for it, might as well get the right one from the start :D
Yeah but not from the states eh? I dont wanna throw my monies away on postage!
Edit: on saying that the UK ones dont seem much cheaper, lol
Edit2: I see that was the cheapest one on either bay, my apologies... Why are these so pricey :(
Slk could I have the megadrive scart please,i don't need audio as I have the md through my mixer
@slk, hmm I was under the impression the HD model had stereo sound from the rear aswell? Maybe I'm mistaken... And they didnt make any official or third party ones huh? that explains it :)
@Subzero, thats technically a breach of Amibay rules but I'm fine with it if slk agrees. Please be careful asking for things that are offered in other peoples threads in future however.
---------- Post added at 09:49 ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 ----------
Oh and make a seperate thread
And heres me thinking they were just standard release scarts all this time .
---------- Post added at 10:28 ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 ----------
How exactly does one make one?
Original (or Third Party) RGB Sega Genesis Cables didn't have any 3,5" Stereo Jack for stereophonic audio.
They hadn't any resistor on pins which activated RGB on television when the consolle was turned on, I bought boxed ones and they works good depending on how well your TV tolerates signals. Which mean that sometimes there is too much white (happened to me) or strange noises (maybe caused by the absence of resistors and unexpected *strongness* of Red, Green and Blue).
Fitting several resistors and capacitors into a Scart connector is a PITA and it's a recent improvement for larger compatibility of Genesis RGB output.
SNES and MegaDrive RGB cabling is a tricky thing :)
Cheers,
Oge
Then I guess I'm looking for a decent one  Please be kind on my wallet though peeps!
Scart shipped today:thumbsup:

Thanks matey!
Scart received... having a few minor issues though...
On one scart socket on my TV, the picture is blurry.
On the other, its sharp as heck, but a little quivery near the top, and there are vertical lines across the image.
I've attached images to demonstrate. The sharper ones that have lines are from scart socket 1 and the blurrier ones from socket 2... I'm guessing only socket 1 supports RGB? It looks good but those vertical lines and the slight quivering are spoiling it. The blurry pics are actually in focus but thats how it actually appears on the TV. You may need to zoom in a bit to see the detail properly.
The last 2 comparison pics probably show the 2 outputs best.
Are you using a hdtv mate? The wavy lines are very typical and the quivering also of the digitizer in hdtv's. Just tried with my md 2 and the issue isnt nearly as bad, so you may be able to alleviate it by putting some resistors on the rgb lines (i forget which) if there aren't any.
Yes in most pal tv's only one port is rgb, while the other is svhs.
I must admit I didn't think of it at all, since i only tested it with a crt before sending it.
Edit: just dragged my kids hdtv upstairs to the game room and tested with an md 1 and that wasnt as pronounced either, so it looks like the difference is in the cable. Check for resistors inside the scart plug. My md2 one looks like this.

Every RGB cable is good, as long as your TV supports Sega Genesis R/G/B signals natively. Elsewhere, you need to add resistors and capacitors to get a proper signal. I created a small PCB enclosed into a black plastic case to fit capacitors (a little greater than 10V since I had the space to do it).
There is also a "Crystal Clear Audio Modification" available somewhere.
Cheers,
Oge
Damn, so my TV doesnt support MD1 RGB natively?
Okay I will look into doing this mod. And heres me thinking it would all be over at this point

What resistors are needed?
Here is what it looks like at the moment... It appears to already have a resistor...
That one is most likely just for autoswitching scart. Does it? Anyway there are 3 or 4 in mine. Ill check what specs they have if I can.

Okay thanks.
I need to run to the post office, I will be back in an hour or so :)
No specs. Will have a look for one of the articles about it. Probably one on mmmonkey.
Look here:

Ah nice

Presumably its the 100Ohm resistor thats already attached?
Yes :)

Just ordered a bunch of 75s
I hope that solves it! You're really getting your hands dirty :)

Its what I enjoy doing best :D
No better way to learn IMO.
I just replaced a power switch and cart slot on a DS lite too
Nice work! I just replaced a battery in a gameboy adv.!
My new project, when they decide to send me my tiny solder point, is to install a modbo760 on a ps2 I got for £10 so it wont matter if I f up.
Back on topic, i cant think of anything else that could be 'wrong' with the cable so crossing my fingers.

Okay well no probs if not. I just hope I dont damage my TV.
Well don't ADD power :D

Aw I wanted to plug it into the wall for luminous effects
I'm sure that would have been spectacular!

And hair raising... if you have any...
Not after last time ;)

Added the blue LED to the Megadrive btw... Pics on the thread
Hmm. interesting...
There are already resistors on this cable but they appear to have the wrong values???
Hmm... the resistor values check out. Theyre still 75Ohm resistors, just a 5 band code instead of 4.
If the resistors are attached why the issues?
Replaced resistors with the ones I purchased... Same Issues... It must be a sync problem...
Need to look for more mods to fix this now

Looks like I need to do this mod to get it working flawlessly on my TV....
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/sega/md-sync.htm
Ordered some appropriate capacitors for it :)
---------- Post added at 05:04 ---------- Previous post was at 04:57 ----------
The white beast will truely be supreme!
Only flunk is it narfs 32x compatability, however, I'm good with that. It will be the ultimate megadrive and I do have another :D.
MegaCD should still work too!
Oh, is the 32x racist?
Hope THAT mod works for you then:D

Add capacitors to each RGB line. Let us know if this will solve your issue: the RGB output of Sega Genesis is a bit troublesome and this thread will be useful for other users who have the same problem (which are more than we think).
Cheers,
Oge
Capacitors inline with the resistors?
What uF rating do I need?
---------- Post added at 05:22 ---------- Previous post was at 05:20 ----------
... ... ... Looks up diagrams... :coffee:
:readit: 220uF! I just bought a bunch of these :D
Added caps, no change... actually they stopped the top of the screen quivering... But jailbars still exist...
Looks like the motherboard mod will be necessery to fix the jailbars issue afterall.
---------- Post added at 14:23 ---------- Previous post was at 14:21 ----------
I will have to do this on a day I have more free time I think.
Please post a photo. Which TV are you using and what was the voltage rating of the capacitors?
Cheers,
Oge
the joins have been insulated with electrical tape so not much to see.
The TV is a Samsung LE40A55 model. (Samsung Series 5 40" LCD).
---------- Post added at 15:48 ---------- Previous post was at 15:46 ----------
Read the link I posted in the page before this.It shows evidence of the cables not removing the jailbars. The guy had to do the same mod to remove them.
---------- Post added at 15:54 ---------- Previous post was at 15:48 ----------
The caps are 10v I believe. Configuration as here...
http://members.optusnet.com.au/evilt.../gamescart.htm
Of note, my md2 also has crappy RGB output on my 24" Samsung, but perfect through my pioneer, LG and Sony TV's.

Yup, the site I posted with the mod appears to confirm that it's only necessary with Samsung TVs too. Must be something in the Samsung tech that doesnt play nice with oldschool RGB.
---------- Post added at 00:09 ---------- Previous post was at 00:08 ----------
I'll post back here once the motherboard mod has been done. I'll prob 60Hz mod it and overclock it at the same time while its open. My oscilators arrived from Poland today :D
3 mods in 1 sitting!
Only thing left then is the paint job...
10V should be enough, more would be better but it would require a small PCB because of the limited space inside the Scart. Howewer rating is IMHO not connected to the issue you are experiencing, obviously related to how your TV handles the non-standard RGB signals coming out from your Sega Genesis. Different revisions were reported to behave differently regarding that.Quote:

Though this expensive LCD had S-Video, CVBS, RGB and HDMI capabilities, the RGB looked better than HDMI testing three different brands of standalone DVD players.
It is not nostalgic to say that CRT TVs are the *Kings*. And the best part is that they're cheaper than ever: grab them before it is too late!

I definately will I think. I need to visit our local cash converters or something and see if I cant find a decent 20 - 30" 4:3 CRT!
Go for it.
There is a dude IRL who use a 22" Grundig CRT. You would be scared seeing how many scratches the plastic has... But, when turned on, you know why he keep on using it: the picture is crystal-clear!
