SCSI Speeds

Just wondering what sort of speeds ya'll getting from your SCSI setups, I'm a little stumped by the slow speeds I get from my CSMkII SCSI and wondered if anyone else had the same issue.

I get approx 3.74mb/sec with SCSI-IDE from my Yamaha adapter and 4.5mb/sec from my IO-Data SCSI-IDE Bridge. My CSMkII is 50mhz 060 fully loaded with 128mb

Yet with a WarpEngine 4040 (040 @ 40mhz) with the same adapters I get 8mb/sec and 9mb/sec respectively :o

Is the SCSI just that much better on the WarpEngine or is it to do with the Warp running EXT jumpers and the CSMkII running INT?

Just to add to the thread I'm getting 12mb/sec from my CSPPC with the Yamaha SCSI-IDE bridge which I'm very pleased with, yet with the A-Card UW SCSI-IDE Bridge I'm only getting 11mb/sec, strange eh?

Anyway, really, I just wanted to see if anyone else was using a CSMkII and found the SCSI to be a bit slow :coffee:

Maybe this can help you a bit? .....

You're using IDE devices? If yes, try using only SCSI devices and one IDE Terminator (a hardware one or maybe a software solution).

As you know, by default you have two scsi devices loaded at boot time... scsi.device or csppc.device or .... and also a second scsi.device (2scsi.device ? ), this one is the IDE controller.

On my systems. if I have two scsi.devices loaded at boot time the SCSI speed decreases dramatically, but with only one (CSPPC or CS MK-II) the SCSI performance increases and HDD's "fly".... :)

Thanks for the info, on all my setups I only have the one device and it is terminated (the CSPPC has active terminators both ends also)

So it's not slowed by an old SCSI CDROM or anything, however I don't have any working SCSI HDD's to try only the SCSI-IDE bridges/IDE drives.

For me it's much easier to work with IDE drives and WinUAE with an external HDD USB2 caddy.

Maybe these speeds are just the best to expect from SCSI-IDE setups?

With CSMkII and SCSI HDD's what sort of speeds do you get?

I use a scsi-IDE setup with an 2.5 5200rpm laptop hdd and i get 25-30mb/s.

I use an acard adapter to go from scsi to ide

I'm also getting 25-30MB/s on my CSPPC with both my Acard SCSI-SATA and my Acard SCSI-IDE.

When you only get 11MB/S with the Acard on the CSPPC. Are there any other devices on the SCSI chain? Are the setting in CSPPC bootmenu correct? The acard is jumpered to send out Termpower?

Maybe I'm explained bad, sorry.

Try shutting down the IDE interface of the mobo with one IDE Terminator (Hw or soft).

Only one scsi.device must be loaded at boot time (from CSPPC or CS MK-II) :) you can test it with HDToolBox or other tool.

Note: The DENEB usbscsi.device not interfere ;)

The internal ide interface (scsi.device) should not interfere with the scsi on the CSPPC.

I used a IDE CD/HDD on the internal IDE interface in my A4000 and still get 25-30MB/s from my scsi devices on the CSPPC.

I bet that something is badly configured... terminators, jumpers, bootmenu?

Maybe something is bad configured, I don't know ....

But in two A4KD's with CSPPC's I have found the same issue... with mobo IDE ON the SCSI speed decreases, with mobo IDE OFF SCSI speed increases :shrug:

As I know, the SCSI chains are properly configured, active terminatos on both ends, teminator power, ID's, Boot menu, .... and all adapters are the same, ACARD-7720UW Bios 8.69. Also the IDE HDD's and DVD's are from the same brand, model and version.... :shrug:

In anyway my speeds are a bit lower: from 19 to 23 MB/s...... I will check again... 25-30 MB/s sounds great :)

About the CS MK-II, if I don't remember bad... 8-10 MB/s is the maximum speed I get in the past...

Thanks for the replies guys, I set the CSPPC settings as suggested by mfilos in another thread, I'll have to find that.

As you say it's probably settings related. I'm still a little stumped though as to why WarpEngine 4040 gets 9mb/sec and CSMkII gets 4mb/sec with the exact same setup?

Thats the one I'd like to nail down if possible!

Set synchronous mode if not already set so. In asynchronous mode not only commands but also actual data transfers are carried out at the default 5 MB/sec [aka 8-bit narrow, 5 MHz "slow" bus].
