You could put a cd32 power plug on a standard A500 PSU, if you have one :)
Really?
I do have an a500 power supply, is there a guide for this?
Check here:

It's got pinouts for both.
You only need the 12v, 5v, and gnd.
Interesting...
So if I lob the end off my a500 power supply & solder a 4 pin din on the end wired for cd32 that would work
Yep :)

Hiyas there, before you start hacking - ensure that the Powersupply can meet your demands.
Have a look at the power supply of the A500, on the bottom you should read it rating - there are a couple of versions - so its important to know what is being outputed by the power supply -
The CD32 requires
2 amps on the +12 volts
2.5 amps onthe +5 volts
Its good to know that a little more amperage isn't going to hurt and infact is a good thing. So as an idea - should that your A500 PSU proove adequate - then open it up and solder / fit an entire new CD32 power lead - that way you can always go back to using the PSU on the A500 / A600 / A1200 etc
I will also mention that you may have a power problem with the laser itself - a small SMD replacement on the PCB solves the problem, one can also reduce the current inhibitor to solve the problem as well. However before this juncture I would recommmend that you replace all the electrolytics on the motherboard first.
Yeah thats what I meant

Just hacked off the end of my powersupply & then I got this message.
Just looked at the bottom of the a500 psu and it's no good
5v - 4.5A
12v - 1.0A
Oh well back to the drawing board :(
I have a converted PSU, with 12v 2.5A and 5v 2.5A going spare. I use one on my CD32 just fine. £15 plus P&P will do it.
Unfortunately, I'm going away tomorrow for the weekend, but I'm back on Monday.
I've also just replaced all the caps on my board, all 31 of them, and it works great. It's not a hard job, just a bit laborious.
