FastATA 4000 MkV problems.

Hi everyone,

I have installed a FastATA 4000 MkV into my A4000 today but it's not seeing a connected HDD which I prepared last night and have been using ok on the onboard IDE. The board is displayed in the early startup screen as Working.

The IDE ribbon cable is connected to the Primary port on the FastATA and has correct polarity. The drive is set to Master and I have a CDROM set up as Slave on the same cable. I've also tried disconnecting the CDROM and using Cable Select settings. I've tried swapping positions of the devices on the cable.

Do I need to get one of those IDE port disablers to make the fastata work.

how long did you wait for a boot m8?

You do not need any terminator on native IDE port but have to wait about 30 seconds.

Mine did not boot and I tried another zorro slot and it worked. On my system cannot get Cf cards working but SDHC yes....

I am not really Happy with this product...

Here are the different scenarios:

Info:
- CF card contains WB 3.1
- HDD contains OS 3.9 +BB1 and 2


FastATA NOT inserted, devices connected to onboard IDE.

1. CF boots ok.
2. Real HDD boots ok.



FastATA inserted, devices connected to onboard IDE.

1. CF card boots ok.
2. Real HDD almost starts to load WB but displays "Software Failure Program Failed (error #80000004). Wait for disk activity to finish. BB ROM updates maybe?



FastATA inserted, devices connected to FastATA Primary Port

1. CF card waits for 35 seconds, then displays Yellow Recoverable Alert,
Error: 0100 000F Task: 07003278 ...system resets, displays the same message then the screen goes black, with no more resets.

2. Real HDD waits for 35 seconds, then displays Yellow Recoverable Alert,
Error: 0100 000F Task: 07003278 ...system resets, displays the same message then the screen goes black, with no more resets.

I tried to get a fastATAMkIV working once, had nothing but greif with it - since then I've stuck with SCSI setups, well cheated slightly and use SCSI-IDE adapters :cool:

However, I had some issues with my IDE HDD's on SCSI and it turned out to be a Mask issue, take a look at this thread:

@Steve, I'm using PFS3DS filesystem on the HDD.

Mask = 0x7FFFFFFE
Max Transfer = 0x0001FE00

Nah, still no good. Whatever I connect to the FastATA crashes the system and anything other than an IDE to CF card plugged into the onboard IDE will also be problematic.

I'll contact Amigakit and ask their advice as I've only received it from them today. Will update this thread with any news.

I have two FastATA 4000 MKV working with IDE HDD's (320GB) & DVD's at PIO4 on my A4K's like a charm.

Try using good quality cables. With longer -more than 45cms- 80 pin cables you get r/w errors try using 35cms ones. With 40pin cables you can "go" to 45 or 50cms.

The scsi.device of the FastATA MKV resides inside the board and must be v60.x

On primary channel connect only HDD's and use the secondary channel for DVD's.

Don't use cable select, set the HDD-DVD jumpers correctly for master/slave.

I'm using SFS 1.279 with the same parameters:

Mask = 0x7FFFFFFE
Max Transfer = 0x0001FE00

One good idea is to use an IDE Terminator for the mobo.

Don't use IDEFix97 you don't need it with this board. The four channels and devices are recognized at boot time with the correct parameters and IDEFix maybe interferes with the MK-V.

Also, you don't need to "skip" the scsi.device in the SetPatch SKIPROMUPDATES "scsi.device" QUIET line

Last but not least ( :D ), be sure the FastATA drivers are in the first lines of the Startup-Sequence (before SetPatch command).

On my side everything is ok :

IDE cable is less than 45cm long (I have only a SDHC adapter connected to the primary port)
Mask transfer ok
Using last SFS
Using Terminator on the 4000's IDE port
Do not use IDEfix
Everything is ok in the startup...

I will check the version of scsi.device tonight....

Using a perfect copy of my WB on a CF adapter results in Software Failure Program Failed (error #80000004)...

I think I will do the same thing as Fitzy : using the SCSI of the CSMKIII but need to find a way to fix a HDD inside the case...

Yes, check the ROM version the latest are 6.x and works great. I'm using UW-SCSI devices together with my MKV's and no issues.
