A1000 Project Doom machine.
here is my project A1000, many changes have taken place but i won't reveal what just yet..
I'm still waiting for parts to finish her and some may take some time but here is a sneak preview of my A1000x
Spec
CPU 68040 (33 mhz)
AGA
Ram 32mb
Rom 3.0
Hdd 4gb IDE
Os 3.1
External PSU
I've decided to start a new thread simply because this has moved on a lot from my original A1000.
I've been working on this slowly for a few months , since after retro really when I decided the lowly spec of the ocs a1000 was a little limiting.
Plans for the future ..
More CPU power / ram / possibly a network
Classic workbench may appear on this machine when I sort some ram
Out too.

UPDATE:
CPU changed.
Ram added.
cooling fan fitted.
result-
various demos loaded and tested, all good.
Doom running and playing now - testing heat and stability.

My original A1000 was a poor old thing, damaged plastics, missing clips and rusty sockets but it worked. however after the novelty wore off with the pretty looks the realisation came that the old girl can't do a lot. I had initially planned a 68030 upgrade and IDE , kickstart rom and a HDD. but this fell by the way side as the kickstart roms would not work and the ram was very limited in the cpu add on. So after much thinking and planning a major upgrade was chosen and no going back now.
Am i happy?
yes pretty much i can return the machine to original spec if really needed but i don't want to and have little desire to do so , i will in the future buy a better condition A1000 and leave it as standard.
Why do it?
The A1000 while a pretty machine and the first version of the Amiga line, it is also the most limited in every way. CPU upgrades just to run whdload become tricky but there are solutions. Now personally I like nice icons, a desktop
Picture and ram to play with and anything less than an 030 runs along at a snails pace. In reality I want 040/060 performance and IDE options and a tidy solution is not available on the 1000 platform. I could of course hack a zorro card on the bus and fit an IDE on the 68000 but all this is fairly pointless. In real terms , the a1000 is maxed out at ecs , 030 and Scsi hdd from an a500.
Most of which I have done in the past.
So as I wanted 060 performance from all my Amigas , a 1200 retro fit was used. I know people will moan and complain that you should not alter an a1000 but I
Want it to be use full and I can return it standard trim - no earth shattering changes where made apart from 3 posts being cut off the plastic chassis. But the could be refitted with industrial glue if needed.
