Capacitor time:
My 1200 board has been playing up the last week or more and doing the oddest things..
first off. the colour on the monitor became a little pale - washed out.. then the names of folders became scrambled for example. Work , became WŁ_K and so on.
The finally i started getting errors in Quake and when booting in to WB ... set patch error.
if i clocked the machine down to 66mhz or 50mhz the problems went away but i suspect that in time they would return...so time to change the caps.
I have managed to get a cap kit (thanks Chris ps - one missing lol) and i spent the last hours changing the caps.
all SMD and thru hole were changes - luckily i had a 10v 1000uf in stock.
the result - well after an hour, the picture is vibrant again and Quake zooms along at 75mhz again. lovely :-)
an hour well spent. Atleast 2 of the caps were failing badly on inspection and one almost fell apart when i warmed it with the soldering iron (i use 2 like tweezers)
mike.
I forgot to take pics while doing it - sorry :-(

That's certainly one way to put a monitor.

Hello,
The continuing saga of my A1000 project machine continues with another upgrade.
Indivision mk2 AGA DVI
My A1000 has transformed in to an AGA board running an 060 at around 80mhz.
fitting.
As i have an Aluminium back panel on my 1000 (for the 1200 ports) i can cut this about with fear of making holes in the original 1000 case. so i cut and dremmelled a slot in the rear panel last night and fitted the DVI connector , this boring i finished it off by de burring and cleaning up a bit. popped the cable on and tested it. i know it works as i have set it before.
The last thing i did was to hot glue two sides of the indy as it has a habit of popping off - as you would expect really, it is a push fit after all and you don't want it coming off with the power on!
Download the HighGRX driver from aminet and drop it in to the DEVS/Monitors and away you go after a reboot.
RESULT?
Good i like having a large screen to use and i will at some point fit a GBSVGA thingy inside the A1000 and have auto switching VGA/RGB screen modes but for the moment this will do.
the screen redraws much quicker with 128 colours rather than 256...
mike.
some bumf:
Performance and Compatibility:
The output pixel clock can go up to 135 MHz (the former Indivision AGA only allowed up to 71 MHz), the data rate reaches more than 480 MBytes/s peak performance (used to be 330 MBytes/s peak); 50 Hz modes (e.g. PAL) can be promoted to 60+ Hz and thus be displayed on modern monitors; 16 MBytes framebuffer, entirely addressable (used to be 12 MBytes previously); supports S-Hires (*) and full 24-bit colour depth; unlike other internal flicker fixers, the Indivision AGA Mk2 supports the BorderBlank flag.
On Screen Display:
A subtle semitransparent OSD replaces the splash screen of the predecessor model.
Perfect Fit:
The Indivision AGA Mk2 is plugged over the Lisa chip, no other connection to the motherboard is required (unlike other internal flicker fixers that also require a connection to Alice). Due to a much enhanced 84-pin PLCC socket being used, the Indivision fits like a glove and won't come off easily.
Energy Efficient:
Modern FPGA technology and low power consumption (1.2V core voltage) make sure to save energy and avoid heat problems.
Reconfigurable Logic:
Hardware updates can (*) be downloaded from the Internet. Even timing corrections are possible, allowing the Indivision AGA Mk2 to adapt even to the strangest chipset combinations (e.g. Lisa chips made by NCR).
Available from Amigakit.co.uk (thanks matthew)
I have to tidy the cables , fit the HDD and do other jobs in the future....

Wow! That looks awesome Mike! I may just be able to forgive you for butchering an A1000 case  Cheryl helps your case BIG TIME of course :D

by the way this is being posted by the Amiga via

i'll have to take pics of the miami config as it was a bugger to set up - until i clicked something and away it went :-)
-
no worries mike i see you got the netcard working as all my pcmcia slots dont work for 1 reason or other
-
thanks for the card John and the HDD , i set it up (hdd) with 3.1 in the end and just copied the newer scsi driver over. hddinst found the partitions and off i went no problem.
i need to track down a more modern ide drive soon and then copy everything i have amiga wise over to it, rather than have stuff everywhere. my old 4gb was full and only had half the stuff on it.
i may play with the sata to ide on the 1200 and see how that works, i think i have a couple of sata drives kicking about 250gb or so. that should be enough for the Amiga.
mike.

Some more changes now.
Fast ATA MK1
CD-ROM (to fit)
Molex internal loom.
removing.
Floppy emulator - i dont need it in here.
mike.
-
where are you going to re-house the cd or is it a dvd drive to mike?
that reminds me ive got to make a couple of custom ide cables when the ribbon turns up:lol:
-
Possibly in the front panel where the floppy goes.
I have another A1000 case with some nasty holes cut in it (floppy area) , so i'll use the front from that.
its an old cd but i have a much nicer DVD to use really..
i had no intention of adding a cd but Mark sent me a dvd to ide adaptor ...so now im compelled.

some minor updates:
revision 2B motherboard fitted - mine went pop and now yellow screens, i'll have to sort that another day.
So the 2b board is fitted and also a blizzard 1260 at 66mhz instead of the Apollo 1260. No reason for the swap i wanted to get a PPC but they are mega expensive - unless someone has a lowely spec one in a drawer for me?
still havent fitted a cd-rom and not sure if i will...
maybe.
128mb simm to find next.
