A2000 broken agnus ...(FIXED)

My newly acquired a2000 needs some love and attention.. It boots but is unstable and often has a yellow or green screen.

Rev 4.2 ( I think )

Battery removed , was just starting to leak but no damage.

Faults..

Agnus

The agnus socket is badly broke / cracked and although complete its held together with a tie wrap.
The agnus also has a broken leg ( missing ) but the machine boots mostly.

Ive since removed the socket and replaced with one from a spare 500 board and now I just get a green or yellow screen - I have ordered new sockets to replace it with new in the week. It did boot this morn with the broken socket and tie wrap around it.

Psu

The psu smells like fish and no longer boot the machine , I've pinched my a2000 psu and it now boots..
Atx to 2000 conversion needed.

Keyboard

The keyboard does not work and has a solid caps lock light on - even when the 2000 booted to wb.

So my questions are..

Why the green / yellow screen at boot (must be agnus) and what's the problem with the keyboard?

All fixed and working - well almost.

new agnus socket fitted (new old one)
cpu pin 1 and pin 64 failing to make contact - battery leak probable cause.

cpu socket clean but slightly damaged but not enough to worry about. Agnus socket working perfectly.

boots up fine , no coloured screen except for purple 3.1 requester.

Jobs to do..

rebuild and fix keyboard - constant caps light - no keys work.
PSU convert to ATX and fit inside A2000 psu case.

That keyboard fault sounds very familiar. Infact I remember, Chiark had a similar fault with an a500+ keyboard HERE, he resolved it but didn't mention how, might be worth dropping him a PM.

Thanks Phil , I enjoyed doing it .. Although the CPU socket foxed me for a couple of hours I can tell you.

Computer works, replace plcc socket - then it doesn't work ! Grrr I checked the socket 4 times before thinking it must be something else lol.. And it was.

I'll have a word with nick, I haven't even looked at the keyboard yet tho

Thanks guys , both hot air and pin by pin .

I don't have an hot air rework station just a heat gun. So I warmed the board and then used an iron with a sucker built in to clear the holes. It does a nice job.

A temp controlled rework station is next on my shopping list.

Ahh, another Black and Decker afficionado :); us 'old skoolers' seem to be a dying breed, being slowly replaced by the hot air station brigade. I thought I was alone, until now.....;)
