Help with a1200 wb install

Hi there,

I'm having some real difficulty getting my A1200 working with a hard disk.

I'm using a 20GB Fujitsu IDE hard disk, I install WB 3.1 through WinUAE it works perfectly, boots fine and I can set everything up ensuring that partitions are smaller than 3GB in size.

I copy all my WHDload stuff across to DH1 or DH2 leaving workbench on DH0 (bootable) and everything seems fine, but... when I go to boot up my A1200 it gives random errors, sometimes it doesn't boot, other times it says Disk in DH0 is not a DOS disk.

Also when plugging in a CDROM (Tried 3 Different CDROMS and Hard Disks) the A1200 bios finds nothing at all. (Checked Master/slave settings & cable)

When I plug the hard disk in on it's own the A1200 bios finds it but then leaves me with the not a dos disk thing.

I'm pulling my hair out as so far I've beens trying to get Workbench to boot for over a week.


EDIT* I've just plugged the hard disk back into my PC to use WinUAE afte it's been in the A1200 and now it's corrupt again, GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I have got the amiga working once but it did not see any partitions other than DH0

HELP!!!!! :blink:

Best bet when setting it up is:

DH0: I usually set 500MB
ignore the other partitions for now.
Get WB setup, install idefix from aminet (Which will also enable you to see your CD-Rom drive)

Then setup the rest of your partitions. Or at least, that method tends to work for me :)

Thanks gonna give it another try setting things up purely on the amiga rather than winuae :blink:

If you're using WinUAE (Which is easier, your best bet would be to check out Bloodwych's ClassicWB installs, they're nicely preconfigured and fully patched for supporting large hard drives and CD-Ronms etc:thumbsup: )

Easy to install too.

There's a version for most Amiga specs :)

any idea's why plugging a combination of hard drive and CDrom in kills everything attached to IDE at a bios level lol

Good question, though you're better getting the HDD setup and patched, then go from there once you know the basics are set correctly.

For a CDROM I would suggest using a 4Way Buffered IDE & IDEFix as mentioned by Gouldin :)

Some HDD/CDROM combinations just wont work on the same IDE cable with the Amiga, there are patched scsi.device you can download and patch with loadmodule command, Classic Workbench has these included.
