And the needed hd upgrade is done. ;)
I've had this for a couple of months but I'd thought I'd post it up since TC installed it. Even tho, after reading this you'll see the board TC installed has been replaced (no fault of TC, was my fault) TCs soldering in such tight spaces is excellent, incredibly tidy and highly professional. The caps he replaced are still in my unit, again, excellent job. It's a Gamegear with TV (RGB scart) out and a Megadrive pad port with start button support. The board is from the supurb Otaku's Store (http://www.otakus-store.net/en/home/...connector.html), new set of caps from ebay and posted to TC for the important bit.
Initially I tried it on my Trinitron and the colors were very dark and off, and tbh I was gutted. TC said he thought the colors were fine, but also Castle of Illusion showed corrupt output on the TV. Chatted to TC and he thought it was the board not supporting the game, which turns out to be correct (video mode or or something). Anyway, I enquired with the chap from Otakus store (who developed and built the TV out board) and he suggested I send the whole unit to him (they're in France) to look at. He tested it and said the colors were fine but did experience corruption in Castle of Illusion and he wasn't sure why. So he installed a replacement board and had the same results. He tried the game on the different mobo version of the GG (single/twin ASIC) and same problem. He now concludes its a video mode/resolution issue with some GG games that he didn't spot before, but he assures me there's only a small number of games that use that mode.
So he sent it back to me, with the conclusion the colors are fine, he tested my custom RGB cable (which is a MD2 cable) and that was fine (I worried it was causing the color issues). He did all this for free, except for postage, which I think is highly commendable. Once I got it back I tested it again on my Trinitron and the same color problem, sigh. So I got my little 15" LCD out and tested on that and voila, perfection!!! So I dragged my 'backup' 21" Trinitron out and also voila, perfect again! Turns out my original Trinny is going bad.
So long story short, thanks to TC for the absolutely professional installation. Thanks to Otaku's store for the support and a brilliant product. Honestly guys it's cheap, and well worth it. It looks fantastic now on my other CRT. I have no problems with it at all. Long post but just sharing issues really.
Pics show one from my old CRT, the rest are from my new CRT and possibly one from my LCD.
Shame those GGTV adapters don't have a setting via jumper to enable full screen. That would be awesome for converting the old and crappy GG LCD to a newer one.
Picked up some goodies at Play Expo today :D
