A few days ago, my good friend learned of an elderly relative who had sadly passed. When clearing out said relative's possessions, he came across the Speccy below. Not having much idea what to do with it, but knowing I was a collector of such things, he asked me to appraise it for him. Aside from needing a new keyboard membrane, everything apparently worked! Well actually I've not tested the printer interface, I've no printer or much interest in that. He asked me whether I'd be willing to replace the keyboard membrane for him (you may have already seen my thread about this over in services) and complete any other repairs I come across. In exchange for this, he said I could half of whatever I can sell the finished thing for. "Think of it as a project" he said. So, despite never having done one before, I said I'd give the membrane a go, warning him of my lack of experience in this regard. Amazingly, I didn't break anything and it all worked. As one of the faulty keys was Enter, I'd not been able to test the function of the thing until this point. A bit of research later, I was using an app called PlayZX on my tablet to emulate a tape player and we were off. Horace goes Skiing, Outrun, Spy Hunter... It's been so long since I had a working Speccy... Yeah. Well, I found him a buyer. It was me. And he let me have it on the original terms, so half the going rate. I was delighted. I even managed to pick up what appears to be an unused cassette player on the other bay for next-to-nothing (the box looks very used, but the player itself still has stickers and whatnot on it.) Inspired by djcook and thecorfiot, I even did the RF mod myself with my shiny new soldering iron setup. I've been having a blast... Anyway, here it is!

PS if anyone wants a ZXL Print III by Euroelectronics, complete with Centronics cable (I think that's what they're called, been a while!) let me know. I'd be happy to trade it for "something interesting," whatever you may have...

i see You have a Joystick interface with cartridge port, did You got any carts for it? If not - check my offers, i have home made 10 in 1 reprogrammable cartridges for cheap money

This isn't really new, I just thought I'd share it. Cabinet from Ikea, signs from Fleabay, consoles from god-only-knows. I put the thing together myself rather crudely, but it works and I'm rather proud of it :)

About thirty years ago I lent my entire Amiga disk collection to a "friend" who promptly had a major issue with his A500 and decided to smash it. Apparently my disks also needed to be sacrificed to make his point and he threw them out with his now-in-pieces A500.
It's been that long since I had a set of original A1000 system disks. I finally have another. :bounceBoingBall:

I also just picked up an AlphaServer from a local recycler who stated it did not boot. Luckily I know that both a keyboard and mouse need to be attached in order to boot. I always wanted an alpha machine to play with and while Win 2000 RC2 for Alpha is a buggy pile of junk it at least installs and runs without the licence paks needed for OpenVMS.

This weekend, I took a trip to my local Maplin hoping for some liquidation bargains. Sadly, they are just carrying on regardless (even telling customers that they have no plans to close any stores) so there's no fire sale or weird old stocked pulled out from dusty corners, just another day.

The question now... What to do with it? I thought about making a digital tape player, but then I found I can buy them for less than £20. Maybe an emulation station. Any suggestions?

They've just started the liquidation process. It's be a few months or even a year before they start selling of stock cheaply.
