I finally got a good deal on a nice Vectrex! Haven't been able to test the cartridge port yet but I have a 32-in-1 cartridge on the way as well. :)

Heather: I am so jealous. These are hard to come by in working order for a reasonable price. This and a Turbo Duo are my 2 most sought after consoles. Both go for way too much.
:D The only problem with it so far is that there's a lot of buzzing noise in the audio. The caps probably need replacement. The 32-in-1 cart covers just about every game that was made for the system so I'm very happy about that.
Heather
Heather, this is common in these. There is a way to fix it. I am at work right now and they blocked me from going to gaming related sites  so I cannot check right now. Fortunatly Amibay was not blocked. But I know I have seen several articles detailing how to fix this issue.
^^^^
Please PM the links to me when you get a chance! I really appreciate the help. :)

Here's one guide but it is in a .zip so I won't post it here. I will PM it.
The Vectrex is a great system. Don't be too bothered about the audio, they all do it.
You can re-route the audio and rework several ground points to improve it, but they were all like that from new :-)
My Vectrex cart collection is here
There's quite a lot of homebrew and limited releases that have come from the scene in the last 5-6 years. You might want to pick up some of those - they're really rather good. New releases occasionally pop up on rec.games.vectrex from time to time (the most recent being 'Sectis').
So, yet another friend, yet another "You like Amigas, right?" conversation and I'm now in possession of a desktop A4000/030! Again, this one's a loaner; the guy would like it back, but I'll have some fun giving it a couple of upgrades here and there. Nothing major, probably just a 4GB CF and Kickstart 3.1 ROMs, but still. All good fun!
Also, since I've got the flat to myself for the next few weeks, the miggies have come out to play! Have a nice photo:

From left to right: The new (borrowed) A4000; My battered and bashed, but still kicking A3000 ; The venerable A2000, still going strong.
Remove the A4000 Battery ASAP!
My friend did that some weeks ago (on my advice); long before the unit made it to my house. Of those three Amigas, only the A2000 has an RTC battery, and that's a CR2032 hack job.
That reminds me, that A500 plus is still sitting in the corner with a sealed warranty sticker... I'd better go pull that apart tonight and disconnect its battery! Thanks for the reminder, rkauer!

And another one bites the dust!

Battery removed!
There was a bit of green furring around some of the components near the battery, but it hadn't got too bad. Sadly, I'm out of lemon juice, so had to resort to vinegar. The green goo came off quickly and easily (A far cry from my A3000 story!) so it works a treat, but sadly it doesn't smell nearly as nice as a zesty lemon-fresh Amiga would! Finally, I've been very liberal with the dilute IPA, covering the whole board to remove both the vinegar deposits and indeed any other crap on the board (Hence why the board is wet in the photo above). I'll hopefully fire her up again tomorrow and see if she's still working!
Ok this is not exactly new as I've had it about 6 months but tonight is the 1st time I've had a chance to clean and test it.
My Father-in-law had an old computer that was taking up space in his Garage and wanted me to take it off his hands:), so I obliged, and it happened to be a Sinclair QL, in it's original box (in very good condition) with original poly inserts, manuals, memory expansion with FDD adapter, a QL Mouse, bundles of Software, and a QL Vision Monitor.
So I cleaned the monitor as that was grubby as sin, and powered on the QL, and booted up fine. The only problem I have found is the keyboard membrane needs replacing.
Will upload some photo's later.
If I type what I'm thinking now I'll have to ban myself for bad behaviour, swearing and envy!
Andy & Alcatan, you guys have all my envy.
Wanna trade some for a used wife?
I wish the A500+ was as popular here in North America, as it was in Europe. It seems that Commodore ship them all over there, but none here to Canada.
Well some additions to my collection:
A CPC6128, still waiting for a rgb/scart cable and power adapter to fully test but apart from some keyboard yellowing is in good shape, of cours i will follow the great tuturial by Jasey and make misself an external 3,5'' floppy drive  :

A good looking Philips VG-8010 (first computer i ever touched :D) with psu, now i REALLY need to find Athletic Land and Monkey Academy Carts!!! :

A C64c cream color (a good candidate to finally make my recipe of Retrobrite ) fully working, also will need a C2n Cassette Player:

Some more in a few weeks... i hope!!
Pictures of the QL:D
@alcatan
now thats a keeper... a beautiful QL, with memory upgrade I see... would that make it 1024KB or 512KB ? i cannot remember what they originally shipped with.
Recently I have been reviewing an old Einstine 256 - designed / built in theUK exclusively for the Japanese Market by TANDY. I am still getting my head round a home computer in 1984 with 256KB of RAM and I thought that my Specky 48k and C64 was the roxorz!
Unfortunately the Shipping would be a killer;) LOL

Definately a keeper, I'm sure it takes it to 512, I'll boot it up tonight and photo the screen as it has a nice little message that comes up telling you what the board is and how much memory it has due to the expansion.
Received today my v3.0 RGB to S-video adapter from Nathan @ Amigamaniac:

It's not mine, but the other day someone dropped off an A4000D at Ed's that they didn't want any more. The case was a plain vanilla 4000/40 case, but inside.... There was one of the A4000 CR boards, Buster 11, 2 MB Chip RAM soldered, and an 030 built in. I having never seen one was excited. Ed didn't seem to be too surprised, though. I thought it was cool and wanted to share with everyone here.
Scored a genuine Acorn cassette recorder and a 16k ZX Spectrum today off a certain web site (*cough*) - both in brilliant condition and much cheapness....
Very happy..... :)
I got in an original MACINTOSH yesterday (M0001) that was heavily modded with 1 meg of ram and a 40 meg external drive (SCSI and Ethernet port added). With bag etc. It ran flawless for 8 hours, then .. problems. Ether the Power supply is going to give up the ghost or the internal fan (yes one was added) is going, It will probably cost me more to pick up a new P/S then it will be to replace it with a slightly better Mac Classic or plus or SE or something. it's too bad, I had thought I saved another one from the bin.
Those are also fitted in Micronik towers, I picked one up a few months ago:

Edit: the photo is upside down, so rotate 180 :-D
Finally got what I wanted off evilbay, as opposed to getting bored and buying shiny addons.
Working Master 128 with double 5 1/4 drive. As courier charges for anything of this weight is £90 :censored: it's the same for anything under 20kg. Hence the annoyance of finding someone selling the drive and micro together :****ed:.
I have a working econet network here, consisting of a working Level 3 fileserver (CF hard drive kit, Master ET with some missing interfaces re-installed, 6502 second processor), plus the usual cabling and clockbox.
But I still needed a second machine as the server is dedicated and we don't have a way of accessing the special partition the server stores all the network files on from a PC. Worse still I have a 80186 copro board which only fits in a Master and requires a floppy drive to install its software from :censored:.
So when this heavy box arrives I can finally get everything working :woot:, and see if there is anything readable left on my old floppy disks. Should have copies of some games I wrote in high school on them.
Crumby evilbay pic
I know a few staff members who would like that Beeb setup!!
Ah... thats really reminiscent of the BBC Micros we had at secondary school before they finally upgraded the machines lol.
Received my second HxC Floppy Emulator but the package was crushed and there is water damage. The board survived but it is water damaged as well. Now I have to try to get it replaced.

SdG, Sorry to see that. Did it fall off the boat and have to be fished out of the ocean?
OMG WTF?! Good luck in getting a replacement. That really sucks.
Must have been. :( He didn't even have the item in an Anti-Static bag. Just packing peanuts in a box. It probably would have survived had it been in a plastic bag of some sort. I'm very, very unhappy and angry about this one. I'll probably have to send it back to him and lose money because I have to ship it overseas!
Heather
Hope you're able to get it replaced, or at least refunded. Looks like the postal service (either end) probably wouldn't handle it for "improper packaging" reasons. Hope it works out.
At first I thought it was a bubble wrap mailer and upon closer inspection realized it was actually a box! Looks like Ace Ventura delivered that package.
Good luck getting it replaced SdG!
They knew how to make manuals in those days - 300+ A4 pages and full system schematics
Now to get making a power and scart lead.
Aww thats nasty, where did you get it from so i can put on my avoidance list. They obviously don't know how to handle electronics.
I'd be asking them to refund postage too as it wasn't wrapped sufficiently.
Send them the pics and an angry mail, and mention if they don't refund you I'm going to kick their butts! :censored:
@ Heather
That definitely deserves a nastygram being sent to them. If it was new, they should be able to handle it as a warranty claim and I would hold out for them to refund the shipping as it was clearly their fault.
If the seller was also the manufacturer and they want to remain reputable on the retro scene for this item, they had better pull their fingers out and sort this sharpish.
@ Shoonay
Who is making these units in Przyjazni, Poland? Can you assist Heather in getting this sorted out?
LOL! Thanks, I will. :)
@Merlin
It's the same guy I bought the last one from, Lotharek on eBay. He's the "official" person building and selling these according to the HxC home page.
http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_...Floppyemulator
The last one I received from Lotharek was perfect but I don't think it was really packaged any better. The sad thing is that the device did not break, even with the crushed box, but it's worthless with all the water damage. Even if it does still work, I ordered a NEW device, not a damaged one.
Heather
@ Merlin - If the seller was the manufacturer wouldnt they know how to handle electronics? I would have expected them to have had it in a static proof bag if that were the case. I dont really know about the standards in poland though.

Apparently not the official person for packaging though!...
You should mention this on the site :D
@ Heather
Well, Lotharek had better sort it out before his reputation goes down the tubes; word travels fast on the retro scene so I don't suppose it will be long before he gets clued up on this.
You could maybe write to him and offer to write a review of his device......
LOL, sounds like a great plan Merlin!
Looks like Lotherec is on vacation, according his site. http://www.mmj.pl/~lotharek/atari/
We have a certain sense of style in the way we do things around here, AmiNeo; it's not all about getting the result, but also how you manage to achieve it....
@ Brian
That web link could be strangely prophetic, if you follow me...... ;)
What great timing...
I love it Merlin :D
---------- Post added at 21:49 ---------- Previous post was at 21:48 ----------
Theres more than one way to kick butt...
Damn that stinks... is it just him who can handle it? No one else you could get intouch with?
I think we need a chat room in here, lol.
@ Heather
Lotharek must have a 2-I-C looking after the store while he's away... I suggest that you ask Shoonay to see what he can do to grease the wheels from his end and lodge a complaint on your behalf. Sometimes the native language can work wonders....
