I always wanted one and when this one came along I had to get it. Best thing of all is that I bought it as non working when all it had was a dodgy power brick. Hooked up a spare A500 one I had laying around and it works perfectly.
Happy days :)
I better fill in the warranty card :P
Just bought Rise of the Nation extended from steam :)
Just bought Speedball 2 HD, The Chaos Engine and Heli Heroes :)
Thrift Shop Day (well, one of, it'd take me 3 days to hit all the thrift stores in Calgary)
some 'vintage' board/card games:
Quest: A Game of the Knights of the Round Table (1978 ) (had never seen or heard of this one before)
Waterworks (1972) card game (had this one when i was 11 or 12, kind of a lucky find since i'd just been looking it up online in the last week too)
some 'vintage' books/comics:
Choose Your Own Adventure 16: Survival at Sea (1982)
Choose Your Own Adventure 17: The Race Forever (1983)
Marvel Comics, Master of Kung Fu #98 (1981)
GameBoy Advance cart: Golden Sun: The Lost Age
a Dell 23" LCD Monitor (VGA/DVI/HDMI) in very good condition, and not very expensive.
nothing tremendously exciting, but it seems to be getting harder and harder to find anything from the 70s/early 80s (or earlier) in the thrift shops any more, particularly anything REALLY good (can't recall the last time i saw a Commodore item of ANY sort)
I got a Roland UM-ONE USB-MIDI adapter today!

Works great on OSX and Windows 7 (Win 8 too) and even works properly with Windows running in a Parallels VM on OSX! I've tried El Cheapo units from eBay before but they have timing issues that cause my Roland MT-32 to not work 100% as SysEx messages just never worked (a MIDI Synth without working SysEx is useless).
Got a nice little expansion for my HP N36L MicroServer .... a HP P410i SmartArray HW Raid Controller! performance is much better than the stock on-board SATA Controller. :D

Arturia Minibrute SE
I've been hearing great things about Arturia's recent real-analog hardware synthesizers pretty much since they came out with the original Minibrute, and when they announced the Minibrute SE, which replaced the arpeggiator with the sequencer from the Microbrute, I knew I had to get one. Finally got my order in this past Friday, and it got here today. What an amazing little instrument! It's only a single-oscillator monosynth, but you can freely mix multiple waveforms and apply some heavy waveshaping effects even before you get to the excellent, unique Steiner-Parker filter. With the multi-mode filter, built-in "Brute Factor" feedback-overdrive effect, and sequencer, it's basically the ideal thing for heavy SH-101-style techno bass stuff, but it's got a lot of potential as a lead synth, too - like the ARP Pro-Soloist, it has aftertouch but no velocity sensitivity, so you can play with as light and fast a touch as you like and still be able to get expression when you need it.
I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this, I just know it :)
evil-bay (china cheap)
BIN Link OK ?

Oddly AV2 is Master
Brill - thanks very much!
decided to go to the Thrift Shops again today, this time to the NE of Calgary (the other day was in the South)
there are tons of these in Calgary, about 4 that i can easily get to in the NE, 3 sort of mid-south and 2 more further south...
there's at least 5-6 more that i never get to as i would really need a car to go to them (they aren't anywhere near our LRT system)
not much in the way of computer-y stuff again (much rarer these days), but a bit more in the way of gaming stuff, which keeps me happy anyways.
1: a boxed copy of GURPS, Basic Set (1987) (a nice find for me, this is really the gaming stuff i am into, things from my childhood/teen years, i had this one and lost it along the way)
2: AD&D Monstrous Manual
3: Fighting Fantasy #4: Starship Traveller
4: Choose Your Own Adventure #6: Your Code Name is Jonah (1981) (trying to complete this series as well as other gamebooks)
5: CYOA #12: Inside UFA 54-40 (1982)
6: CYOA #4: Your Very Own Robot (1982) (Younger Readers Edition)
7: 2 unopened packs of 25 HD 3.5" FDs
8: a pair of Laplink serial cables
9: Myth Adventures One (1985) graphic novel
10: Clash of the Titans (2010) BluRay
Oh man, those CYOA books are giving me a complete nostalgia trip...I might have to see if I can order them somewhere :)
Chooseco did some reproductions in 2005 so it shouldnt be that hard, i am a bit more into the Fighting Fantasy ones (like Starship Traveller) and thier 'clones' (Middle Earth/Tolkien Quests were good)
i also liked the 'You Are an Interplanetary Spy' ones, but i haven't seen any around in a long time.
(i also keep my eyes open for Endless Quest (D&D version of CYOA), Find Your Fate (i only have one of the Indiana Jones ones) and Zork Quest (i have the first 3))
If it's of any interest, they did a pair of Lemmings ones, too, in 1995 (Lemmings Adventure Gamebook 1: The Genesis Quest, and Lemmings Adventure Gamebook 2: The Hypnosis Enigma; Info here, and cover images here), but I'm not sure if they ever made it out of the UK. ;)
There were a few video game-based ones sold here, actually - there were several Super Mario and Sonic The Hedgehog ones, too, with the latter ones made specifically for the UK market (I can't remember if the Mario ones were or not)...
don't think i have ever seen them here, Canada gets about 95% of what the US does, its essentially the same market :/ (though usually with slightly higher prices due to additional distributions costs and exchange rates)
looks like UK release only

Today I received...
Attachment 73662
1. Logitech SoundMan 16 (or a Media Vision Pro Audio Spectrum 16LL (yep, same card!)) Like new, with box, manuals and drivers.
2. TWO Covox Speech Things. And two different models too! I wonder how different they sound from each other.
Nice! I've got the same one and it works great! I would recommend putting a dot showing the orientation of how the chip should go since it's easy to forget that detail when you are in a hurry. I would know... ;)

Neat! Darn shame somebody scribbled on the back of them! LOL!
At least it was only the trapdoors ;)Quote:

Hey!
Today I received a long awaited ISA sound card. Still boxed and shrink-wrapped : A Covox SoundMaster II.
It is, as they call it "The ultra-compatible PC sound and music card"

Can't wait to try it and see how it sounds!
Hey! If I sent my trapdoors to Mr. Haynie, I wonder if he would sign them for me? Hmmm...

Lately for me it's been building up my HP calculator collection.
In no particular order:
Two 28s's, a 42s, a 41cx, two 71b's, a WP34s, and four 30b's (to be converted to WP34s's). I also have a 15C, a 16C, and a few other ones (including a Prime) as well. I guess that I can call it quits once I get a 48 and a 50.
And absolutely no clue as how to use them (well, maybe a small clue, but there is no denying that a slide rule is pretty much out of my league :) ).
Found a really cheap deal for this brand new TV/Monitor which has component and CVBS inputs plus the usual PC and HDMI. If it's any good I'm might even use it to preserve the life of my 1081 CRT. :)

Today I received a complete, boxed Roland LAPC-I that looks new to the eye.
The data pins have no scratches on them from inserting the card into an ISA slot.
This is pretty awesome!
Attachment 73849
Nice, that's an MT-32 on an ISA card isn't it?
Placed my order 2 months ago and forgot all about it until a few weeks ago when I received an email saying the batch was ready... now I play the waiting game until my MSX2 is shipped over to Ireland at the end of the month
