Really is nice to sit and thumb through the pages Bryce when ever my friend and I had a disagreement on a subject he would run to the paper google book shelf :D
So true demolition how ever heavy you think they are it's more believe me
I haven't checked them out in a loooong time, but I seem to remember that my parents had a few extra "Childrens Encyclopedia" books as part of the set, but they may have been an additional option.

Received my Blizzard 1260 today and a full fat MC68060RC50 chip, both in lovely condition, as part of an upcoming project :coffee:

A little bit different, but after what seems like an age waiting for BT to get their act together, I finally got my FTTC connection up and running.

WiiU Premium. Came up on Facebook Marketplace near me for £<Snip>. Now fully modded with two 1TB USB HDD's containing a backup of pretty much everything Nintendo I ever owned since NES. Just invested in a USB->GameCube adapter so I can use the GameCube controller with Nintendont
Received a MechBoard64 today (mechanical C64 keyboard). Feels very nice and sturdy. Very professionally made. I just need to figure out which keycaps I want to use with it. I backed the IndieGoGo keycap campaign years ago, but I have lost hope that it will ever result in anything. :)

Found this curious looking keyboard locally, I can't really identify it, but it's fully PS2-compatible and feels like it's at least partially mechanical. Looks kind of like Model M, but it's much lighter and without detachable cable. The type is KPQ-E99YC.
Attachment 139391
It's from one of the Commodore line of PC compatible clones

Well, despite some major sleeping issues (I used to work late-evenings/nights because of them), I managed to drag myself out to do a thrift shop run (and partly to force myself to stay awake, to attempt to force myself back to some semblance of 'normalcy')

With some assistance from RuneRider, I have finally managed to procure a functioning Atari 5200.
Along with the 5200 I received a Trak-Ball controller which needs a little work (the buttons all appear to work fine, but the roller has issues, the bottom row of pins on the connector were a little mangled, and are among the connections which control the pots (9-11), and/or the roller ball rollers/contacts may need fixing)
as well as a bunch of carts:
Centipede
Super Breakout
Pengo
Pac-Man
Pole Position
Jungle Hunt
Joust
Vanguard
Q*Bert
Popeye
James Bond 007 (non-functioning)
I will have to track down a couple of working (or fixable) controllers (hopefully for a reasonable price)

Today I received a BeBox.
I found a post on Reddit of someone looking to sell theirs at a cheap price, as long as it would go to a good home. The post was 3 years old, and had a bunch of replies, but I figured I'd follow up anyway. I really wanted a BeBox. It turned out the owner still had it. He lived in a small town in France, and would only take IBAN. I've sent IBAN twice in my life, and each time my bank calls me and gives me a lecture about buying stuff from people I don't know... So there was a little more of a struggle to use it this time around. US should really adopt the standard.
It took a month and a half to get the transfer done, the package picked up from the small town, and it shipped to me, but it all arrived in one piece!
I also got some components for my Amiga 3000T project - new kickstart roms, new classic os, fastata card, network card, and bigram plus (which nobody needs).
Attachment 140994
Whoa. Jealous!
always liked BeOS, used it briefly around R3/R4 (1998ish), it's a shame that it wound up being another competitor left in MicroSofts wake...
probably worth noting that Haiku, the only remaining BeOS 'compatible' OS still in development, has finally come out of 'alpha' and was released to 'beta' (R1 beta 1) in September.

Commodore A2288 BridgeBoard (at least as identified by SysInfo). Tested working. Anyone know the difference between the A2088XT and the A2288?
Pardon my bench.

Edit: I can clearly see A2088 on that yellow sticker.

After going through hell with the damaged A3000T not long ago I now have a very nice example for my collection, and it's the even more rare 040 version. :bounceBoingBall: I'm guessing someone stripped the machine down at some point as the software on the drives and stickers on the expansion slots indicate a Video Toaster 4000 with Flyer and a Macintosh Emplant board were once installed.

I had the A3070 tape drive for a while and did not realize how different the color was from the tower machines. I guess the one you could order with the 3000T had a lighter faceplate.

So, my local Comic Shop is going out of business (the one where I've been getting the Star Wars: Power of the Force figures and cheap bargain bin comics), this is their #2 store and I gather it just isn't making enough money any more (and a few other stores in the area have already closed)
As a result all their stock was severely discounted (all back issues of comics at bargain bin price effectively, Toys/Figures 70% off, trade paperbacks @ $5 a book, everything else @ 50% off), unfortunately for me the sale began before Christmas (around the 15th I believe) and as I was spending time with family, missed out on the first half of the sale (the store was pretty much 1/2 empty)
but I did get a few things (notably, about 200 comic back issues, of which I was only charged for 165... cuz the guy got tired of counting...) for cheap...
and one of my Christmas gifts this year (well, what I got with onew of my gift cards..)

Tuesday was the final day for my local comic shop and I thought I'd wander over and see what was left, and see if they'd decided to blow out the rest of the stuff... no such luck... still, the sale prices were decent, so I had a look through, not a lot left for good stuff (although, if they had decided to 'blow out' the remaining stuff for the last day there would've been a good 100 books I would've gladly taken...but alas...) there was still a full wall from the front of the store to the back loaded with all the random stuff, trades, collections, compendiums, etc. that people were just not interested in I guess... I would estimate probably 8,000 to 10,000 books, but apparently the owner chose to rather find someone who'd take them as a lot (and probably only get about 50 cents an item... so why not blow them out for $2 a piece for the last day or 2...?)
Also, very oddly, the business has a web site for it's 2 stores, plus another affiliated store in the north of Calgary, and they never bothered to even advertise the 'clearance' sale, nor the closing of the store on there... very bizarre. (in fact, 2 days after the store closure the website still says 'Visit our Inglewood Store' - I guess the owner just doesn't care :P maybe it's why they closed...
I did manage to grab a few more back issues at 'bargain bin' prices (a few more dupes as I had trouble remembering some of the ones I grabbed last time, it was something like 204 issues the first time around), as well as a few hard-cover Smurfs books and a Savage Sword of Conan TPB.

I've decided to branch out a little with my Amiga collection. I picked up this Joyboard recently which came with the only game made for it. I also have two standard Atari/Commodore Amiga Power-sticks as well as set for the TI-99.
Attachment 143470
I'm going to attempt to locate the Amiga cartridges made for the Atari 2600 and the Colecovision/Intellivision Power-Stick as well.
I've had little luck with the cards I had printed to let people know I collect computers, but when I do get a random call it's proven to be something major. My best acquisition to date is a new-in-box IBM 5150. Today I may have matched that.
I received a call from a woman who said she had one of my cards and asked if I'd be interested in a PET computer. I told her that I would and asked the model. She told me it is a Super PET and I was very happy to hear that. I'd very much like to add a PET 2001 from 1977 to my collection, but any Commodore PET is good.
In the end I picked up the machine, the drive and remarkably also the drive cable. The computer works and now it's time to clean it up and test the drive out.

Came across these at work, what a score!
Already popped one in my A1200, took my 16gb Image, burned it to the CF, used Thomas' fixhddsize tool to correct the RDB, added a 40gb partition, instant win :D
Time to copy across my MOD collection :ninja:

I wanted to show my nearly brand new C64. List of parts here with more photos: https://amigalove.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=967
This was not a cheap build, but the keyboard is easily the best C64 I’ve ever typed on. The only things that aren’t new are the keycaps and a handful of original chips. New case (that I snagged for $24 on Ebay a couple of years ago), new Mechboard keyboard, MK2 Reloaded.
I went with Gatreon yellow microswitches on the Mechboard as they are the closest in feel to the original.

So I wound up having to go into the clinic/hospital for a couple days running to get treated for a (probable) staph infection in my leg, on Monday I was up in the NE of Calgary where one of the hospitals is (and conveniently right across the street to the mall where Sunrise Records/EB Games and a few other stores I go to are in, and also in the are of some of the Thrift Shops I like to go to) and when I was done, wandered around for a while, Sunrise still had a ton of Funkos, and the clearance had been changed to get 50% more off if you bought 3 (from 25%) so I grabbed a few more.... the Dollar Store also had a few...

Hi. So, I have not seen an Amiga in the wild for ages... years maybe. So despite having probably around ten A500's I couldn't resist buying this A500 for super cheap untested. Came with a Commodore RGB cable and an A501. Missing trap door cover.
Anyway took it home and before testing I took it apart, washed the filthy case under a hose pipe, cleaned the motherboard, cleaned the filthy floppy drive and also the keyboard. I took apart the A501 and removed the battery which had only just started leaking slightly... Thank you GP battery for not being a VARTA. Cleaned it up and put it back together.
Testing time.... Hooked it up, switched on and I see the lovely Kickstart 1.3 screen and the familiar floppy drive click. Insert a few disks but it had problems, so I used a disk cleaner and after that it boots everything fine. Picture, sound, controls, everything works fine as does the ram expansion. The keyboard has issues and I couldn't solve it but I had a spare which I used.
Anyway enough babble, here are some pics :)
You're probably going to be asked to remove the price you paid. Forum rules and all that.
Bryce.
And now, the moment you've all been dreading.... another thrift shop run. plus 2 Blood Bowl teams from GW (ordered Tues. night, shipped Wed. morning, first thing... delivered Thurs. afternoon... UPS Saver, from Tn....whaaaat?!?)

a few more bits from today, Value Village getting a shipload of BluRays recently, and lowered their price on them a couple of months ago...
(7.0)
Well, it's a bit of a stretch to claim that I "got" this today, as I've had the parts and the project going on for a little while, but I did finish it yesterday. I present for your viewing entertainment, the latest addition to the Franken500... A plipbox.
Attachment 145836Attachment 145837
Probably not the best arrangement of parts, but I was pretty pleased with my re-purposing of an old PC serial port header... soldering all those little connectors on the back of it was fun. It was even more fun when I realised that having done all 25 pins, the project actually only needed 13 of them. Ah well, you live and learn. Well, having got all the MiamiDX faff out of the way, my little 500 was finally online after thirty-some-odd years. It didn't much like it. But it worked. Certianly things like NFS and FTP worked more than sufficiently. Probably not going to be watching any youtube videos on it though. Came here, that mostly worked good and Aminet worked great. All in all, great success. The only problem is that I don't like having all those short-circuitable conductive bits hanging around. After not finding anything remotely appropriate in my spares box, I came up with the ugliest solution I think I ever had (and for anyone who's seen the Franken500, that's quite a a thing!) So without further ado, the finished article:
Attachment 145838
Heat-shrink-tubing boys. Gross. But effective. I've set aside the cash for a Build it yourself 3d printer, which I will pick up at the end of the month, all being well. Then I can make a case for this atrocity and also for all the other crap hanging out of Franken500, which now comprises....
3.1 socketed ROMS
512k Trapdoor expansion (replaced battery with coin cell)
ACA500 (not the plus) with 2x 4GB CF allowing 1MB Chip and 1.8MB fast and a marginally better 68k cpu
ACA 1221EC Moving us up to 12 whole MB RAM and a nice overclocked 020 which steps up to 48mhz as required
Gotek floppy emulator, kinda redundant but I like being able to throw ADFs at it
Now the Plipbox
So yeah, it's getting pretty big and dangly. It's over 2 feet wide on the desk with all the expansions hanging out. Oh yeah, I also have on order a kit for a PS2 mouse adaptor, just to hang more ridiculous crap off it. What an amazing machine for its age. I just wish I had that AGA chipset in my life, ya know. Still, fun is being had.
