My good friend Timo is sending me a Japanese Saturn to add to my Japanese console collection, with a stack of games (more besides the pictures) of course I've had to send some money his way

No worries mate, I am sure you will enjoy her, when it comes to Japanese 2D retro gaming nothing gets better than the Neo Geo and Saturn. By the way I will be sending the other games separately via airmail as they did not fit in the box, so you might get some of the other games earlier. :)
nice saturn steve how come the uk always get plain black or white machines
Some great finds! I especially like the complete NES setup.

Got my Indivision card and A1000 Adapter. The only Complain I have Is the big warning sheet for the Adapter is in German. Why can't they put an English translation on the Reverse, so the whole rest of the population of the world can read it? I don't think this is a Jen's Item, because Jens would have put English in there.
Basically, don't stick it on Denise socket but instead stick it on the Paula socket :)

Posted a general wanted ad for Commodore equipment/accessories on Craig's List last week. Someone contacted me about this PET 2001 computer and I jumped at the chance to get it.
It was a single owner system so it's in excellent physical condition. Unfortunately, there's a problem with the monitor, tape drive, and something wrong on the motherboard because it sometimes starts with errors. I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to fix it with the help of the retro community. :D
The gentleman also had two other amazing computers that he's had since the 70's. The first is an IMSAI 8080 and the second is a Sol-20 Terminal Computer! He's selling them but they are certainly out of my price range. It was, however, really great to see two historically significant systems in person.
Heather
Awesome, Heather! <-(I can rephrase this sentence without the comma)
The PET is an important computer to have. Most of the times the problem lies in the dried up capacitors (as always) or oxidated contacts.
Thanks Rogerio! I'm fairly certain that the problem with the main board is the capacitors since the PET will sometimes start properly. Speaking of capacitors, how do you test one to see if is working properly? I also need to learn how to read a capacitor to know what I need to buy for replacements.
The monitor works, but there is a wave that flows from the top of the monitor to the bottom. Anything in the thick wave band gets distorted. Fixing the cassette drive might be as simple as cleaning it because the player will play and fast forward/rewind but it does not find any programs on the tape. It may also need an alignment, but I won't be able to tell until I dig into it.
Ciao! :p
Heather
@SDG: I found a relatively easy way to test a capacitor. If you have a can of air, spray it onto the capacitor so that it developes "frost" on the capacitor's surface and "boils" away. You should smell the rotten fish, if it has leaked.
Not sure if this was exactly what you were after. A dry or otherwise faulty capacitor should affect the output voltage.
This should help: http://forum.allaboutcircuits.com/showthread.php?t=5326
Posts # 5,6,7 should cover you, i was too lazy to write details myself..
Thanks guys! I should probably just go ahead and replace all of them because they will eventually need replacing anyways.
Heather
I just got this , i coudnt resist (amiga accelerator on hold LOL )
I need to find my Expert cart and a tape cassette now :D

nice chris never seen them before
That PET is utterly awesome. That was the first computer I used way back in school.
/me wipes away a nostalgic tear.
Wavey lines? First thing I would check is the PSU, smoothing caps and bridge recitifier. Handy thing about PETs is a nice, simple linear PSU design. Simple, easy to test and oh so cheap to repair.
CBM cassette drives *always* need the wonk angle adjusting slightly, it's part of their charm. :)
Just picked this one up. A bit pricey, but hope it's worth it:thumbsup:
Hi to all

Gary
The light magnifier can be bought at Maplins.
Thanks Uncle_Meat! I may pick your brain once I get a chance to start working on it. :)
As for something new... I bought new furniture for my living room today. I also bought my first pistol, a 9mm Glock 26. I know people sometimes don't understand Americans with their guns. I purchased this for shooting paper targets... and to protect my retro collection.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Heather
My new addition is a Picasso IV card.
Some great purchases there guys, GL with the reworking Pablo
Nice aquisitions there Buzzfuzz & GaryED50
I picked up some little goodies at a Car boot sale this morning, not much Gaming stuff there today, just some old tatty PS1's and lots of old PS games...
No Amiga stuff :(
But I did find these useful cards & USB Wireless Keypad in someones box of bits:

I'm not quite sure, my friend.
Try using Anaiis instead of Poseidon, it may work!
But will work well on laptop according to that father on facebook!!

Got this really really nice semi-old sound card.
Sound is great, very good quality as far as I can tell.
Another big plus is the wavetable header inside the break-out box where my DB60XG clone daughter board fits like it was designed specifically for it. Much nicer than having it dangling on the Turtle Beach PCI card I used previously. Also MIDI connectors in the front for attaching my Roland MT-100.
Drivers exist for Windows XP and Vista. However, these drivers also worked just fine on Windows 7 64bit!
This makes it a more or less perfect card for running DOSBOX on a modern system with great MIDI capability. Joy!
And all this for the price of two pints, in Sweden anyway. Or if you prefer: one pint in Norway, or three maybe four pints in UK. :D
Not my pictures though.
I still have my DM 6 Fire in a drawer somewhere, awesome card indeed
Picked up a new monitor yesterday.
Sony Bravia EX310BU 22 Inch Full HD Freeview LED
Costco have it on sale for £200 instead of £300 they're meant to be with a nice 5 yr warranty. (Even rang my old AV Store to see if they could price match, which they couldn't do)
Really surprised by it, 1080p for my PC, Playstation 2 and Xbox 1 work really sharp and clear through component on it. And best of all, my Amiga, MegaDrive and NES have never looked so vivid and sharp. Even manages to remove the blurry fuzz from composite connections, whilst still looking natural and smooth.
Oh yeah, Amiga high-res interlace mode through rgb scart works perfect, mouse moves through the screen really nicely without any tearing going on.
Another nice feature, it allows you to set the screen size and adjust everything and every input is treated individually, so my Mega drive is fully full screen without having to adjust when my miggy is switched on
Overall, perfect retro monitor/tv for me  will take some screenshots tonight. Results are outstanding.
