Post here everytime you get something new!

Well, the good news is that right before I left for work tonight, I got in a Coleco Adam expansion Module for the Coleco vision. The bad news is This might not be salvageable. power cords cut, etc. All the cords are there, just cut. No keyboard, very yellowed. the CPU part might be ok, but the printer is just in sad shape. I will post pictures tonight.
It's a sad shame someone would do this, and it look like beyond my repair skills to fix.:picard
on the bright side, it might be a good parts unit.
This is not the Complete "Stand alone" Adam, but the one you use on the Colecovision.

Grrr, everything except the Ram is here! Looks like I wont be doing the build today after all... No worries though, lots of Data to backup first anyway... :coffee:

Very neat! I have two of the Adam computers but only one of them has the printer. I got my first one from another AmiBay member. It didn't have a printer, which would normally be an issue since the Adam's power supply is in the printer. However, someone had modified an AT power supply to supply the Adam with its power, bypassing the printer module altogether.

My other one has a printer, but it doesn't work! I'm going to figure out how to make another AT power supply mod based on the one I already have. Still don't know what I'm going to do with my Adam since I can't seem to find any modern day hardware for it that would allow me to transfer software to it.

The Ram came from another Warehouse by Royal Fail - It was supposed to be delivered by today as well but we all know how Royal Fail sux :lol:

this is the first "hands on" I have had with an ADAM. I remember when the came out seeing them at the local "Tops in Toys" or was that "Toys and Wheels"? Anyways, for a "Bad" computer, this actually had an expansion bus. Looks like 3 cards can be put inside.
with the ADAMtalk network, I am surprised nobody has made a simple com device for it, but I think it is the same as the AppleTalk (not sure where I read that).
This system (with a bit more engineering) Could have been something. But to put the main Power Supply in the printer -that was just insane.

I wanted one of those Adams so bad as a kid because I was a huge Colecovision fan. So glad I got a C64 instead. Having one for my collection today would be cool just to say that I have it, but did they even do anything worth while? Did they have any good games? I don't think I ever got to see one.

Just doing a quick search shows a user base and even Canadian ADAMCON's (adamcon.org). so I would say there is something to them, To me, it's just a neat quiriosity. I do believe it was only half -baked though, as Coleco was trying to jump on the computer bandwagon. Not as bad as the decision that Mattel made with the Aquarius, but it's plainly obvious, that unlike Commodore, engineer's were NOT in charge of designing it. I am not sure if it was a Marketing fiasco or what, but a simple re-design of the computer THEN would have made it a much more Viable and competing product.
It was rushed to Market and one of the bugs was it would fry cassettes and drives if the cassette was in the drive during power on/off. Coleco Blamed the consumer/ users for this and instead of actually fixing the problem, they rewrote the manual. Also the whole "lets power this thing from the printer, so they can only use our printer and HAVE to use it, was just plain Crazy.
oh and the price made it out of reach for most

My uncle had purchased the Adam computer when I was a kid. The only games I ever had the chance to play on it were the Buck Rogers tape based game and ColecoVision game cartridges. It had a decent word processor, but that was about the extent of what I did with it then.

It's too bad you can't tell if the tape deck works in it. I have one that's bad. :(

lol john, was any of that stuff any good? it had been that long since i'd attempted to use it i didn't really have much idea as to what worked and what didn't.

But with wolfy donating me an a1200 a couple of weeks ago i've been on the lookout for a cheap ram expansion or accelerator so nabbed that lot and will have a play.

most was but some needs repairs/transplants for spares cheers again mate

ive been playing with a fastata mkii cant get the bugga to work with a spare mobo but will try in my known working 1 tonight :thumbsdown:

Just glad someone got some use out of it bud.

Got myself a nice desk set up in the spare room now though so can actually set the miggy its own space and it will get some more play this time round :grin:

I did not exactly get something new today, but when my Chevy G30 van finally started up after 2 full days of charging the batteries( been drained since october!!)...the force of the starter, the roar of the 6.2, the sour smoke filling my lungs.... it felt just like the day I bought it :D me loves my Vans <3

Anyway, I picked up a Commodore A570 (the CD-ROM drive for the A500/A500+) in good condition. Just got to sort myself out with some CDTV and standard Amiga CD titles now :)

From huuto.net auction site a Spectravideo 728 MSX. Just the plain machine. Good thing I have a PSU. Going to do some refurbishing and report back.

Oh... during 90'es Eizo monitors were legendary. Almost all had multisync capability so they were perfect for Amigas. Never had one, because they were above my price range at the time.

Most used by profesionals price range was extremly big compare to another brand... Today you have eizo 2 000 euro and up. This model was originaly sold for 3000 DM or about 1 500 euro or more comparing today price... i get for xxx.
Was hunting tham long time there is not much used on market. it is post Amiga era but catch some old computing style and match fine with my 4000D. I think this have 10 years warranty have to check papers.

One of my customers has just wheeled in a shopping trolley with this in it for me.

Completely non-computer or other machinery related, but we've bought our first piece of art for in our new house yesterday in an auction:

@Bad_Ad84. I turn a lot of stuff away, average hifi stuff and uninteresting consumer electricals. I've done a few few domestic repairs for folk here, word gets around that I like playing with wires, and this happens.

It works, by the way. I just had to give the HDD a bit of a thump to overcome stiction.

And to stay on the subject: yesterday we bought another painting on the same auction site (see picture).
We paid about 16% of the regular gallery price for both paintings so it's quite a bargain really (if you like the paintings that is, otherwise it's just money thrown down the drain ;))...

Cocolino so I can use optical usb mouse with ps2 adapter now. Real eye opening moment when I first got it working now. I can actually play games that need mouse now. I can actually use mouse and not fight with it.

Ball Mice are really better left to dust.

BTW, I think I might put a boing ball case badge on top of that Logitech text :)

Also in the picture is a switch that automatically changes between second joystick and the mouse depending on which device is needed.

It's 13,25% actually (16 was just a wild guess) - the gallery price for the paintings was €385 each, and we paid €51 each (no, that's not price driving since they are unique items ;)). The blue one is waterbased indeed, the other one is an oil painting...

ok, went to the thrift store to buy this Coax to Antenna converter for the switch box for the Atari 600XL
Found an Xbox for way cheap, I don't now if it works yet, I have to pick up a power cord and tv hook ups, and yes, it has been opened, the screws are exposed underneath.
If it works, it was well worth the investment, if not, I will have fun dissecting it.

My neighbour gave me a Commodore 64 bullnose... will test later, finally have a 64 with 6581SID :)

I like the 1541MK2 drives :) though I like all the old C= drives but mmmmm the MK2 used to look so alluring in the adverts in Zzap 64!
(I wish I still had the pair of CBM8050 drives... still, parents cleared out all my pets, drives, printers and 20+ c= calcs and replaced with a 1200 on the advice of miggy owning uncle so hmmm...)

over the last year I got some new glass shelves from IKEA and some shelf runners from Home Depot !

something of a labour of love, took 2 evenings moving shelves as I finally got to cut the wood shelves to length and fit it all together, inc even making new holes 1cm further up at the top .. "hmm, maybe if I didnt have the 6128 it'll look much nicer... but can't ever get rid of the 6128.. damn!"

Its more of a jam than I initially hoped, too much stuff.. :doublebut I'm finally pleased which shelves are fixed and which run in and out (BBC, 48k, 6128 etc)

The hole next to the speccy is for the Core Grafx when it turns up. Other stuff is out of shot and in a big pile!

Got myself a new 23" monitor for my PC (as my last one started to squeal!)... I went with the 'LG IPS235V' as i wanted a wallet friendly IPS screen :). I'm pleased with it so far and find the colours, image quality and viewing angles noticeably better than my previous screen (the response time is not as fast being an IPS panel, but it's still fine for gaming :thumbsup:).

I've also just purchased a little gem of a game called 'Lone Survivor' for the PC (currently £5.59 on Steam)... It's brilliant! :D
