Rescued me an original IBM PC from the recycle center on Thursday, and after a little TLC (Troubleshooting Lazy Capacitors) it's up and running, the beast of a 20MB ST-225 hard drive still chugging along like thirty years ain't even a thing. Appears to have belonged to a Travelers insurance agency, which filled the hard drive with boring junk, but on the other hand, they loaded it up with a whopping 640KB, so what the hey.
Lucky I had a monochrome monitor and XT keyboard laying around!
very nice! and very apt as I've just modelled one of these for Viva Amiga! not owned one myself so not too sure how well I've done, what do you think?

Meant to post this yesterday, but ultimately didn't have the time... Everything I was waiting for arrived at once, for possibly the first time ever.

Got some new things for my video game merchandise collection - blue raspberry sour sweets in a PSP tin (they didn't last long  ), fruit and peppermint chewing gum in an Atari 2600 joystick tin, and a Clank plush to go with Ratchet (so now I have both of them) - and the SCART cable for my beloved C64C.
And here's a closer look at the PSP sweets, since, neatly, they were etched with the PlayStation button icons;

I've been busy, myself...:)
1- TS1000, the ZX81 used in USA. Have the latest ULA and now with composite out. My first computer ever! :)
1.1- Original Sinclair 16kb RAM pack, the wobbler ©
2- TK 90X, the Brazilian clone of the Spectrum. 48kb internally.
3- The real thing. Same as above.
4- CP500, the Brazilian clone of the Tandy TRS80 with its mighty 64kb of RAM, dual Z80 CPU and 30kg weight (my back hurts...)
Overall very nice, but just to nitpick, it looks (a bit difficult to say for sure from that angle) like the case is the same color going all the way back; if you look at my photo, you can see that the front is a plastic bezel in a light beige, about an inch deep, while the case farther back is a darker greyish painted sheet metal...
hi, you are correct it does look like the same colour for both the front housing and the metal casing, but it's just the light and/or angle of that particular scene, not sure why. i have another angle of it rendered out and you can clearly see it's different - the metal also has a slight roughness/bump to it to give a bit of texture and to better match the overall look.
thanks for looking and commenting :)
could you do me a favour and upload a pic of the back ports for me? i intend to do them but i can't find a good/clear picture online. the straighter the better if that's ok :)
cheers,
mrP
not retro and technically not that modern either lol.
but is an upgrade from what i was using downstairs.

im actually happy with it to be honest. could have spend twice as much to buy the same machine. but this was a BIN on ebay and i snapped it up. "wife was not happy. but its about time i get to spoil my self a little lol"
went fishing round the house and found 4g of ram for it so it now has 6Gb total.
I also found an 8400gs low profile pci card today i thought i had lost. so stuck that in there. "was going to buy a 6440 but on board was plenty i was just being greedy so 8400gs it stays)
and thanx to keropi it has a SB audigy se card in it which is perfect for what i want to use the system for.
its a E6400 cpu @ 2.13 Ghz (i cant over clock due to mother board but for once i dont mind lol)
i have also orderd an exta addon for it which will complete the whole lot.
which is 1 of these doo dahs.
http://www.djworx.com/skratchworx/im...es_e2_full.jpg
its a herculese mp3 e2.
after much searching and research it seems that this is the only controller that was within my price range. had the functions i wanted. and would fit on the space i have on my desk without being ridiculously small.
over all i am very happy with all this.
i did have to sell pretty much every thing els i had, and left my self a bit short for the next 4 days. but we have food, we have electricity and we have some emergency money i hide away so we will be fine.
Did i mention i am very happy about this lol.
thanks very much! really do appreciate it and it will keep me busy for the next few days :)
one last question, what are the feet like on the underside? don't need a pic of is it's not really seen, but it can affect shadows, etc. are they just the usual cylindrical feet?
cheers, and thanks again :)
mrP
At least on mine, they're cylindrical corkboard wafers, maybe 2mm thick by 2cm wide or so.
ah right, I see. sort-of what I've done so I will leave them at that
I've added a bit of grunge/wear to the machine now and added a keyboard (minus the keys! lol) Viva Amiga! say they don't need a keyboard modelling so I won't bother adding the keys.
I've also changed the lighting a bit to see if it brings out the difference between the top and front of the machine. I think it has? well, a bit.

please let me know what you think, and thanks for taking the time for me :)
just got a monitor to do now, will start that tonight :)
cheers,
mrP
Hah, fantastic :D Yes, with the lighting changed I can say that those colors are just about the same as mine.
hehe, cheers :)
that's nice to know. it's not easy using photos as reference. actually, having been working on this for the last few days, it's made me really want to own the actual machine, so I might see how much I can get one for :)
thanks again for looking and helping me out :) I owe you a beer or three :)
I won't bore you with any more, lol, I've added more grunge to it now, to age it a bit, not really needed but I've enjoyed doing it. lol
:)
mrP
Heh, well, do share when you've got it finished!
Ahh that feeling when you buy an Amiga which hasn't been used for 15 years and it works perfectly. She is a little filthy but surprisingly white and the disk drive is slightly noisy but reads disks and plays games as though it is still 1992 :)
Kickstart 37.300 (2.05) and REV 1.5 mobo

Groovy
I know it's broken and in rough shape, and not even in my possession yet, as I've only just won it on ebay, but I'm quite excited about owning an Atom... :D:D:D:D
Plus it's going to TC and I know he'll do a fantastic job of restoring it
If anyone has any spare keys please let me know

lovely lovely atom, and tc will do a great job on it! :)
Cheers for the kind words guys..
Mr Beaker.....you will be blown away when she is finished.....hot rod style ;)
TC
@>sir_beaker
Congrats on your ATOM!

I really enjoy seeing your 'work' on a BBC Micro... Try to read and keep up with 'projects' here in AmiBay as much as I can...

These came this morning - Brand New Game and Watch from Club Nintendo and a box of 100 packs of unopened Official Nintendo Stickers from 1992.
@ Bobpard
Very nice dude
Awesome, you lucky B****r:cool:
Yesterday I got a:
Xbox 360 HD DVD Player (Amazon Trader)
But the idiot did not include the PSU or Remote
He said he thought it was USB powered :picard
Sent it back via Courier (Post = Too Much)
Don't know if I'll get my postage refunded ???

I picked up a cracking solid brass Gromit keyring.
Just got my DIY C64 diagnostics cart working :)
Now I have to finish the dongles and harness.
Also made a DIY composite cable out of a PS2 RCA video cable.
Composite cable is good for testing because it works much better than S-Video cables on some LCD TVs.

I believe it said 12v and 2 amps on the case.
Hi plasma do you have a link to info on this c64 cart
there is loads of them on ebay, but they arnt much good without the wiring harness.
i think they used to be called dead carts?(i think thats what the engineers called them)
Cheers roy
here you go mate.
full 64 version:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Commod...item1e86148d1c
full 128 version,better:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Commod...item258422be17
although the machine still has to be capable of booting for it to work.
Dead test carts and diagnostic carts are NOT the same thing, diag carts only work if your Vic/64/128 is partially working including minimal video out.
Dead test carts are virtually an external computer and usually plug into the various CPU, PLA & video chip sockets to analyze what is causing the motherboard to be inoperable.
I used this webpage for info:
http://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~schepers/diagnostic.html
Dongles are ready. Next I'll finish the cassette & controller port harness.
here is my new thingy whatsit,
havent really got to use it in anger yet
"wife wouldnt go out in the horrible weather, and insisted she wanted to watch some dvd show today. so i was unable to really test it as i cant do it without having my amp(s) on"
did give it a bit of a test. little dissapointed the jog wheels arent touch sensitive. but the size and basic functions are just right for my needs.
i will say that i do get around the jog wheel lack of touch sensitivity by using the pause button. but would have preferd actuall touch sensitivity.
http://s27.postimg.org/3jwvc5bq7/100_2211.jpg
generally happy with it though. just 1 small complaint about the jog wheels.
some people wouldnt be happy with a lack of built in sound card but i knew that already and i did not need one with my set up.
Local Prisma had the Xbox 360 wireless wheel on clearance so I picked one up. :)
This is the horseshoe looking thing that you old in your hand and twist it in the air. I had let go of my Xbox 360 force feedback wheel in favor for a PC wheel. I still wanted a wheel for the 360 so I thought to give this a try. Based on a quick try it's not worse than the pad. Of course it's not like the ff wheel but definitely good value for the money.
thankyou plazma will have a look

Compaq Deskpro
Rescued this from the recycle center today. It's an early PC/XT clone with a 7.14MHz 8086, 640KB RAM, a 10MB hard disk, and a peculiar CGA/HGC combo card designed for use with a special Compaq-brand multisync monitor (which I'm gonna have to go back to see if they've still got tomorrow) - luckily, it can be configured to work with a normal CGA or MDA monitor. It's an absolute beast, larger and heavier than my 5150. Judging by the "PC Car Book" disk and the filthy internal condition, it was clearly operating in a garage somewhere, but it boots right up without a problem - the only issue is that the floppy drive doesn't work on account of desperately needing a cleaning. It's not remotely a museum piece, but it's a pretty neat find nonetheless :)
Replacement Xbox360 HD DVD Drive arrived
Still no remote --- But it works :D
Although somebody opened it (or tried to)
as there is a Gap and one of the Clips is Visible
A Shiny New ACA1232/40 from Amigakit.. no pic of the car, as its happily in my Escom 1200 1D4 and working fine so far.. without any timing fixes.

Heh, I think I even have some Netware disks lying around in a box of stuff I got from the discard pile when my old employer moved...

Korg DSS-1
I got this to replace my Korg DW-8000 - it's an enhanced version of the same digital waveforms → analog amplifiers/filters → digital delay architecture, only instead of getting only single-cycle waveforms from ROM, it's a full-fledged sampler (my first!) Only 256KW of 12-bit sample memory, but hey, there's a lot you can fit in there. The key action isn't as nice as the DW-8000's, but it's still pretty decent, and less clacky. Had to drive an hour to get it, but it was still much cheaper than shipping this beast!
(I passed "Nyquist Road" on the way there - what a coincidence! I presume you have to travel at least twice as fast as you need to be going on that route?)
Also got a Danecho delay pedal in trade for a PC tower case I didn't even like. Not a bad way to start the week!
