One more try to get my tower project going. :roll:
What are the steps I need to take to get any image out to my crt screen from mediator 1200tx + voodoo 3+bppc? Should it show some display in early startup menu without installing any drivers or anything?
Then if I get image on startup, what is the order of installing software?
So far I have installed classicwb39 and the multimedia cd but apparently it only contains some parts of what I need.
No image from BPPC nor Voodoo until the software initializes them.
The MMCD will have all the needed files, you must search it for the other files.
IIRC, Elbox have the guide on the site.
Actually, unless you've done a few (or a dozen times) it is a pain the first time. Don't let people think they waltzed through without any problems.
The install and configuration scripts are THE breeze, unless you left the jumpers in the wrong place on the "bridge board," it is now an odd process:
1) run the picasso96 program and make a cybervision64/3D monitor driver -- it seems the settings for this card are the basis for the rest. Now rename the driver from cv64/3D to "Voodoo" then open the icon information menu (R-Amiga + I) and change the name in there to "voodoo" as well.
2) Reboot and make sure that LoadMonDrvs ran to include that monitor or double click on it (you know that it should be in the Devs:monitors directory). Once "active" in the system (double-clicked) go to Picasso96 settings in the Prefs folder and you should have some basic resolution, but they are NOT "attached" to your video card until you do so in the "attach menu" where you should see 2 items, one is nothing and below it the is the Voodoo board. Attach it to those set of resolutions below and save an easy setting -- like 640X480. Then save that setting and reboot AGAIN.
3) After this reboot go to Prefs and select "screen mode;" there should be the standard generic and then a bunch of voodoo settings. Test one you like (and works) and save it. It may work right away or require another reboot!
4) If you have it showing up Whoopee! And praise G-d. If you don't have a monitor switch then take some Motrin and order a switch.
5) If it didn't work then there is another chapter to this saga. Pray that it did or maybe you forgot to plug in the board or switch the cable, because shaking that puppy down is hard. If you contact Elbox be aware that they have you money and they don't care; it will take a dozen emails over 2 - 3 weeks to sort it out. Best bet is to ask here. I'll help once my finger recovers from using my iPhone to respond

Does it matter at what point I install warpos?
Also I do not even know what a picasso96 program is. I have tried cybergraphx3 diskette and cybergraphx4 cd rom though.
as for the jumpers, I am not sure. edit: I have checked and I have "memory window" jumper set to 8MB, then there is a jumper connecting both pins where it says "wake up". Then there is jumper connected to just one of the pins of where it says "wait". I assume this is just included to give me an extra jumper.

The Bridge Board jumpers are straight from the manual, I can't tell you those because I have an A4000 (but got it plus a Radeon are all closed).
Only Picasso96 works. Period. In fact if you play with P96 for a week or two, you can get lots out of it. But for now just try to follow what I wrote. I have been through the process a few dozen times over the past 5 months and it still is not intuitive
Oh, for now forget about WarpOs; you can install that later using the full install not the quick one. I can walk you through all that stuff with only getting the TCP/IP Stack the next pain in the butt
Yes download any version of P96 they run from 2.0 up to 2.1c but for this they all work. The install is straight forward just select C~~64/3D and do the rename stuff. It is more straight forward than CybergraphX in that. You can re-install over and over; it wont matter, just like running the Mediator install

Oh but if I right click in Picasso96Mode then I get this menu which says Attach setting to and I have choises No Board or Board0: Voodoo.

Temporary placement of the tower next to my tv and temporarily carried monitor nearby so that I can have both tv and monitor connected at the same time... and after following your advice I now have this image on my crt from voodoo3! It is almost 4 am and I can finally go to sleep! Thanks again!

Tomorrow is the ultimate challenge: 3d accelerated Quake must be installed and configured and a timedemo must be ran. I guess at this point I also need warpos and warp3d
Well provided the voodoo card shows up when you type in "pciinfo" into a CLI, it means that it failed to go "active," this means you need to check to make sure your Devs:Monitors has a Voodoo listing and that it says Voodoo into icon information. As I understand the OS LoadMonDrvs does the same as executing the file or just plain double-clicking the file. This HAS to be done so the voodoo board shows up in Picasso96mode; some folks have said to click the voodoo card and P-mode at same time but that is stupid. Mostly rebooting in between each step works. Just make sure a) the voodoo is in the Devs:monitors folder and if need be b) type LoadMonDrvs into a CLI, prior to c) going to picasso96modevto attach the board. It always seems to help by rebooting between each step

Now every time I boot I get this: unable to open mixer.library
How do I get rid of this nag message? I donīt want to open mixer.library and I donīt know what it is. It may have come from multimedia cd or the demo version of idefix express. I was able to revome idefix nag message by removing cd2 from dosdrivers but I dont know how to remove this mixer.library message :help:
Also I have the original idefix diskette but I can still only install demo version of idefix. So basically every time I need a cd drive, I install idefix and once I have installed something from cd then I have to uninstall idefix or otherwise it drives me mad with its nag messages :D
I hate startup popup nags :oops:
Once I get that sorted, I guess itīs time to again install idefix and then install games and warpos and stuff. Oh and I really need to get a bmon working so I dont have to keep detaching and attaching cables :)
mixer.lib is for sound if you have no sound card just edit in startup-sequence.

I searched for "mixer" with the search function in my editor when I opened startup-sequence and user-startup but search came up empty.
For now, I have no sound card installed but I have a sound blaster which I could use. Iīm thinking about it but maybe it is more trouble than benefit because cables would have to be rearranged and stuff (how do I get paula sounds with whdload games and sound blaster sounds in those games that support sound cards without constant hassle with plugging and unplugging cables?) :oops:
Iīll do a more thorough manual search in the startup-sequence. Oh and Iīll take a look at your thread.

In the medconfig script you must have clicked to install a sound card, so it added the mixer.library, the mixer program in Prefs and a C: program to initialize the sound card. It is this latter file that is put in the startup-sequence.
The SB128 card is supported and a short 3.5mm to 3.5mm (male-male) jumper cable from Amiga audio out (head phone jack) to the "in line" on the SB128 card will feed Paula sound to the SB128 card. I think Iīll install the sound blaster and a pci network card. Maybe the nag message will go away then and Iīll also get to download stuff again.
IDEFix registration serial is free, Power Computing made it so a long time ago. I still have the serial somewhere I think...

I canīt seem to find such cables for sale at least so they canīt be that common :) I can find cables with that aux connector on both ends, they are on sale for connecting cd drive to sound card. If you start Mixer from WBStartup drawer, try deleting it from here and start mixer at the end of the Startup-Sequence after the execution of User-Startup
You can see the SBlaster with pciinfo?

all you need for the sound is a stereo phono to 3.5mm jack lead,plug the phonos into the amiga sound and the 3.5mm jack into the line in on the card.
then adjust the line in sound volume in the mixer.
That's what I had said earlier; I guess they don't have Radio Shack in Finland
you dont need to make a cable i use a jack to phono cable
jack goes into aux on sound card blue hole and phonos go to red/white on amiga

you can get the leads from fleabay,there dirt cheap.
im not quit sure what your trying to do with custom cables but you will still have to be careful with sound levels to the cd input on the sound card if thats what your trying to do.
Oh I see, I was thinking of internal aux input but yeah I guess I can use other inputs of the card as well :oops:
Sorry to confuse you, it is just the way I did it; if I reverse the connection, then the CD ROM can accept the AUX connection and feed it into the Amiga's output connector. I did this about 12 years ago. Can't remember why but it was before I had ever even heard of a Mediator.
But really Dude, it will all work out. See the amount of help you can get by asking?
update: Wipeout does not work. "hardware" and "play" buttons are grayed out.
gears ppc w3d demo works.
also glsokoban works too without issues, Iīve played a couple levels, no crashes.
I managed to get blitzquake running for half a second and then it crashed. It was actually rendering accelerated graphics for half a second. I have installed my case fan right below the voodoo 3 so it should remain as cool as possible. It only started rendering once though. Now it crashes and gets stuck right when the console is supposed to get out of the way of the game graphics... I think it is maybe faulty voodoo 3... but then why does gears demo and glsokoban work?
I'm glad to hear your Voodoo3 card works; they are great with sharp graphics and high resolution displays (I just like my Radeon more). I doubt your card is overheating unless it is very hot to the touch; nor is it defective if it runs games. I've not run BlitzQuake, but I play QuakeOS4 (the one by the MorphOS folks) a bunch and it still can crash my system. There are problems with graphics rendered to the Voodoo RTG board moreso than a Zorro based board; some programs handle it fine, others don't. THe Mediator Video boards are less tolerant overall (I've tried a Voodoo 2, 3, 4, and 5 as well as the Radeon 9200). Under OS 4.1 you can use "fake AGA modes" in the Prefs:Screenmode, and alot more programs will work. I assume you are using OS 3.9 or so; try the other versions of Quake -- there are several -- on your Voodoo board. I believe that the Voodoo3 and the Radeon 92X0 boards are the most stable (my opinion). If you really think that the Voodoo board you have is a problem, see if you can borrow another card.
Failing that, if you will give me specifics of your game (as long as I don't have to buy it) I can install it and run it on my A4000 using my Radeon; it is sad to say I have CD Quake versions 1 through 4 to install their "pak" files.
any chance you can print out whats in the tooltypes for blitzquake,it may be a memory allocation problem.
I am trying to start this file called glquakeWOS_blitz
it seems to have no icon. Therefore there are also no tooltypes.
quakeWOS works... and I have like 5 different non-gl quake versions all of which work
theres quakewos, warpquake, awinquakewos, then there is just "quake" ... all of them work but no warp 3d acceleration there.
Best result I get is 22.4 fps with a 200MHz ppc and voodoo3 as rtg but not hardware accelerated 3d rendering.
I also tried glquakeWOS. It runs also for half a second. It loads, console starts to get out of the way and it crashes just before it is completely out of the way... so it renders like maybe 10 frames before crashing.
btw, I tried now again transferring my id1 folder to different place and then extracting just only blitzquake there so I make sure those other versions dont mess it up.
So it seems it extracts also this icon for "glquake"
if I double click that icon then it says: "please insert volume quakedir in any drive" then it starts but displays only gray screen.
well I renamed one of my partitions to "quakedir" and moved the contents of id 1 folder to the root of that partition and then again the id1 to the root of that partition so the contents are both in the root of quakedir and also at quakedir:ID1 just to be safe but still that gray screen comes up. It no longer asks to insert that volume though :)
Well, it ain't your Voodoo3 card then. You might get higher FPS (Frames per second or ?First Person Shooter?) with another card or rendering engine, but if I can play a game, I'm happy.

Reduce your screen size to 640x480x16 and then try to start the game.
Also you can edit glquakeWOS file with a text editor, then you can change the command line to start the game, for example you can remove the quakedir line to stop the requester from asking for that directory.
You should also increase the stack, change the screen size to -height 480 -width 640 and add -ahi at the end of the startup line as this seems to be required to make it run.
So it should look something like this:

Also, so that you can pick a screenmode in Wipeout you need to chance the Mediator Envarc for Voodoo Modes from 'essential' to 'all' :cool:

It does not crash if I disable sounds!
I replaced -ahi with -nosound and now it doesnt crash anymore! Seems like something weird is going on though because in first level most of the textures are missing. :)

Okay, Iīm installing mediator files and sound drivers again... seems like I can now start it with -AHI and also the texture problems are now gone... Now I need to figure out cables to actually get sound from sound blaster :)
edit: made a mistake there... if I run with -AHI it runs but with corrupted paula sounds... I should type -ahi ... not -AHI. Itīs case sensitive.
With -ahi it does not work. same error message.
If I double click AHI icon in prefs, it says: Requires ahi.device v4.
seems like MMCD installed AHI version 5.
Should I get older AHI from Aminet?

That is a hard one to crack, i manage to get it to work but now it refuses to start and just gives me a grey screen.
I installed that one. Now it says: Unable to open openpci.library version 1

edit: yes I have glquake working but so far it is without sound... actually I canīt seem to get anything but cd audio right now from sound blaster and paula sounds through ahi are corrupted.

Oh... this sucks... thereīs only emu10k driver but no driver for either sb128 or fm801 :(
If I install driver for them from MMCD then AHI doesnīt recognize them.
Also I can not find openpci.library version 1

Now maybe I know why paula audio is corrupted... I must connect power cable from psu to motherboard floppy power plug to give motherboard more juice.
try version 6.2 of ahi-handler and 6.7 of ahi.device.thats for sb128.
then install the software drivers for the sb128 over ahi on workbench.
Can you please provide links to those?
I googled for ahi.handler 6.2 but I can only find one for OS4 :oops: :unsure:

It says its supposed to be in L drawer of that ppc package but there is no such drawer in that lha file :o
