Iīm so confused now.
It doesnīt matter really if its m68k or ppc version of the 6.2 ahi handler as long as it gives me sound. But I canīt find it, where is it? :help:
and where am I supposed to check for tooltypes? The m68k package in that site has L folder and there is ahi handler of unknown version but it has no icon and therefore no tooltypes.
In DEVS:AHI there is the emu10kx.audio driver have you tried deleting this or moving this to another directory.
The openpci.library error should be gone if that one is deleted :)
There is not much difference between AHI version 5.7 and 6; the Prefs program lets you test the sound output which is nice. You should have an Audio device in your DosDrivers folder, the AHI.device in Devs, the AHI target sound card Devs:AHI and corresponding Audiomode in Devs:Audiomode with Prefs:AHI allowing you to pick the sound card and type of output (stereo, mono, etc). The AHI & Audiomodes show up in another place as well, but I don't think are necessary. What you want is the ability to hear a tone output in the Prefs:AHI selection. With that you are good to go; you need to get Mixer or GhostMixer to initialize a volume, this is where you call mixer or GMstart in your S:startup-sequence / S:user-startup. I'm afraid the author of AHI wrote tome on AHI and it is downloadable. He seems like a great guy and has a 1 paragraph blurb on his web site explaining the setup much clearer than my post

Also it seems that the texture problem is back. Random textures are missing when I start glquake in -nosound mode. Sometimes there are almost no textures at all. (polygons are all white or red or something weird)
If you have the SB128 file in Devs:ahi and the other SB128 in th e Devs:Audiomodes, then SB128 should show up in thes Prefs:AHI Program. There are two other places Mediator puts these file during setup (I'm not at my computer right now) but check the SYS:Classes and Libs directory. You are looking for a subdirectories named AHI and AUDIOMODES; I don't think they are that important but I guess you should make sure they are there. I deleted all the files except SB128 and PAULA; you have a real Amiga so you don't need the emul file.
I had to run the Mediator config program 5 or 6 times and then check all the files we're there and up to date
have you got the driver for the sb128 in devs?
also is the card seated properly?
is the mixer program initialised in your user startup?

I have also now tried with FM801 sound card and it does not show up in AHI either.
I can get "filesave" to appear there and I also get "unit 0" to show up if I donīt delete the "device" driver. But no actual sound cards :(
I think the version of drivers that I have for my cards are not compatible with the ahi.device and ahi.handler that I have...
So I probably need this:
ahi-handler version 6.2
But I do not know for sure which version I have (maybe 6.0?) and do not know where to get 6.2
One more thing. That user-startup file is all greek to me. I donīt know what to add and where.

I still have weird texture problems with quake but I have now tried another game: Shogo mobile armor division works with my voodoo 3. Itīs quite low fps, yes, but it works! And graphics look perfect! And I can use paula sounds.
Iīll take screenshots later :)
Hold on, I'm at my Amy and I can check first hand; perhaps I can email you all the files which get sound working? You are in WB/OS 3.9?
Indeed Classes had an AHI and AudioModes directory and Libs: has an AHI directory. Libs: also has a mixer.library; the AHI directory in all of these have Paula.audio & sb128.audio, where the AudioModes directory has PAULA & SB128. the Devs: directory contains ahi.device (6.7) and paulaaudio.device. Prefs: has the AHI preferences (6.2)
The L: directory has AHI-handler file
Finally the is automatically mounted Audio file in DosDrivers in the Devs: directory, it assign Audio to the L:AHI-handler
The Mixer program just set audio levels to a hear-able level; GhostMixer does the same and is less bloated; it's run at startup is GMStart

I copied your files to my sys from the drawer in the lha.
Still doesnīt appear in AHI :(
I guess my sound card must fail.
Try the card in different slots, the one right next to the Mediator "bridge card" in known to cause problems
One more thing about quakewos_blitz: There is only texture corruption in higher resolutions. 320x240 works perfect with no graphical corruption.
Also I have connected cable from paula audio output to line in of the sound card and also cable from cdrom to internal cd audio input of the sound card so now I can get both paula and cdrom audio from the sound card. Itīs working great that way but I think the only problem with it is that paula sounds are more cpu hungry than sound card sounds would have been.
Itīs a bit weird that I can use the mixer to set cdaudio volume but still the card does not appear in ahi. does that make any sense?
The Prefs program only changes default settings; you will get Paula sound out of your SB128 with it wired that way, which is the only of doing it
Oh, Paula sounds use less CPU time that any other although the MAS Player can offload mp3 sound processing.
Oh... in that case I think Iīll just forget about sb128 sounds and use it like this :D
Programs have to be written to take advantage of the AHI software, so only a few support it
Give it a try with AHI v4.18, that's what I use instead of v6.
I have had a pause with this project for a while because one of my bppcs is in britain with bad_ad84 for building my desktop bvision/indivision/switch system and the other bppc is all packed up and ready to be sent to Stachu for upgrading to insanity. :)
So I will have a humble 030 here for a while because my 1260 is also going to experience some Stachu magic.
This project should resume with an upgraded bppc later in the year :cool:
