Hi mate :)
I've moved your posts here.
A500 - 8mb + A600 - 4mb + A500 adapter arrived yesterday
Leaving feedback :)
Got my a500 adapter and all works like it should.
Thanks Kipper2k
Feedback left.
Hi Kipper, finally got round to installing this in my newly recapped a600. The adaptor is working but needs to be held in place, left alone it will pop off after a few seconds, same results in both the a600 I have. I also have an ACA620, this will attach securely (unfortunately it has issues with whdload) without needing to be held. The adaptor clicks into place but never lasts long. Any ideas?
You could use a bit of hot glue, it will peel away when you want to remove the Ram board just don't glue over an IC's as they could be pulled when you try to peel off the glue.
Mine wasn't an perfect fit either but does stay in place after reseating a couple of times.
Steve.
That's an idea, would you glue to the top of the 6800? What about heat issues?
So, glue both sides, on the outside of the socket where it meets the motherboard. Just need to find some glue sticks now...
I did make provisions for those Amigas that the board keeps popping off, no glue required. I put 2 small holes in the board that will allow a wire soldered to a ground connection on the motherboard which will feed up through the holes on the fastmem board.
steps...
- solder the 2 wires to the motherboard
- feed the wires through the bottom of the fastmem board through the ready made holes
- press the fastmem board into place, and pull the wires tight, cut to size
- solder the wires to the fastmem board :)
(pictures to come)
HDMI adapter arrived, to!
Thank you mate and feedback left!
Arrived today and works fine! Feedback left. :)
here's pics as promised to show how to secure the A604 by 2 wires soldered to motherboard and the fastmem board. The pad circled in red is an alternate solder point for the wire on the right. Please be careful attempting this, if you have doubts about doing it, get help.
steps...
- solder the 2 wires to the motherboard
- feed the wires through the bottom of the fastmem board through the ready made holes
- press the fastmem board into place, and pull the wires tight, cut to size
- verify that the A600 boots up and sees the 4mb
- solder the wires to the fastmem board :)
for info, both of the solder pads on the A604 are electrically isolated and do not connect to any part of the a604 traces or ground plane

Hi Kipper, got my a500 extension board and 8mb fast-ram board today and they work great!
Getting a bit crowded in here now! :D

So I decided to mount my CF-Reader facing out so I can remove the card when I want to transfer files:

Much Better!
Hi Djos,
looking good, i have the IDE68K here ready to setup and i haven't had a chance yet. hopefully soon. do you have WHDload setup on that, and if so, how is it working with the 8mb?
Xmas is coming soon so i imagine there may be a few more requests for boards so people can put them under the tree :)
Yeah I have a paid-up copy of WHDLoad and use that with Classic WorkBench on WB3.1 which is an awesome combo!
I reckon if you can make the CF-IDE68k+FastRam Boards you'll have a massive rush on for them - I might even have to buy 1 or 2! :D
I was using a non-autoconfig ram board before this and while it was great workbench would waste a lot of chip-mem before the autoaddram command made the fast ram available (despite being the first line in startup-sequence).
a combined cf card/ide68k/8mb board would be real nice, i dont think anyone is interested in running mechanical HDDs anymore :)
Hi Kipper, I finally got my replacement 500+ (rev8a) Motherboard and took the opportunity to take some better pics with your boards installed. I had to do the Capacitor relocation mod too:
Cap Mod:

everything installed:

Works perfectly too:

@djos
Nice tidy setup - kudos & thanks for sharing the pics
Hi kipper2k,
Declaring interest in A600 4mb when available.
Payment sent. Thank you. :D
Hi kipper2k,
Declaring interest in :
A600 4MB Fast Ram Memory Expansion board "completed"
A500 8MB Fast Ram Memory Expansion board "without memory chip"
A600 4MB Fast Ram Memory Expansion board "blank board"
a friend have break socket on a608, i need a new socket and a new board if is very damaged, i can order only socket or socket and board?
I would like:
A500 8mb fast ram board
:)
Hi, I am assuming he has broken off one of the pins. They are relatively easy to repair. You can heat the broken portion of the pin and then push it up through the socket to remove it completely. You can then replace it with a pin salvaged from a spare socket.
if you have a picture, please post so i can see the exact problem.

Am interested in an 8Mb a500 board. Also would be after one of your a500 cpu adaptors.
Thanks
I'm about to receive an A1000. To save me sending back the 8mb A500 expansion which didn't work in my CDTV, have you got any more of the A1000 adapters that allow you to connect and keep the floppy drive connected ?
Let me know and I'll send a payment.
THANKS
Are these still for sale?
I would be interested in one for A500 please.
Can the 8 MB version be jumper or software downgraded to 4 MB in case i need to use a side port expansion?
Hi,
They are still for sale. i haven't had a change to play around with memory config so at the moment the only way i think to make it switch between 4 /8mb would be to buy the 8mb board and swap out the CPLD with the 4mb CPLD. I think i am going to have to slow down, have way too much on the plate lol.
Let me know if you want something
Hi, keen on 1 x 8mb board with cpu adpator for an A500. Thanks.
Received my boards and feedback left. One of the ordered boards had a problem (possibly faulty controller chip) but kipper2k had dealt with the situation in a professional manner and received a replacement board. Very happy with the expansions - great work.
anyone else have an issue tih 8MB board interfering with side bus cards in the A1000?
My A1000 won't acknowledge my scsi card and attached scsi HD when the fastram card is installed. The kickrom starts to load from disk then I get a green screen, then the HD makes a few sounds, and the the kick start up starts all over again.
the scsi controller has no ram on board so it shouldn't be interfering with the fast ram board:sad:
Maybe autoconfig(tm) signals need to be added and connected as chain... RAM board and external autoconfig card need to take turns, "autoconfig done" signal is passed from one to next one normally. Does the CPLD used here output it, by the way. Then it would be possible to rewire with knife and wire.
I hear that the green screen is usually a memory fault error so I'll try taking out the MB and reseating the ram board.
Fingers crossed then & a drink before hand for good measure :drinkin:
update:
well reseated board again but same issue. Good news is that all is normal without the ram board and my scsi controller/HD work great as usual. Seems the 8MB fast ram board just doesn't like my scsi controller
just a quick note, i did get confirmation that the A500 board does work in a CDTV, it needed an extra set of risers. I cannot confirm this myself as i do not have a CDTV
If i have A600 and want 4MB expansion together with CF Adapter, i will need to use IDE cable, otherwise expansion will collide with CF Adapter, right?
Unless you get the adapter from Kipper2k which angles the other way.
then yes, you'll need a cable and cabled cf adapter.
cheers
