Retina Z3 with LCD?

Just received a 4000 with a Retina Z3 fitted.

Cant get it to outout to LCD at all and I've tried 9 different screens!

The 4000 is definately working as I can output RGB to composite and boot a workbench disk.

Could it be the Retina is set to a display mode that none of my screens can sync to?

This is my first big box amiga with an RTG card so not completely au fait with the setup.

Have you got the software setup all sorted? It's not just as simple as plugging in an RTG card and expecting it to work. You need to install all the RTG software and 'promote' the Workbench screen to the RTG before you can see it.

Install the Picasso96 drivers, after that you should be able to use the card by going to screenmodes, first test the screenmode, the moment you click save it will switch to Z3, even if your monitor can't display it, the RGB screen will be off, as in blanked white.

Think I'm stuck in a loop at the moment as I think its currently setup with the previous owners config and it must be a display mode that none of my screens can see.

If I boot it from HD with composite plugged in, I can see the grey screen until workbench must kick in and then it must go to the higer res screen as the display shifts and becomes unusuable (over composite). VGA just says no signal.

So could I boot from floppy and just remove the monitors from DEVS/Monitors for now to get it booting in a low res screen and then I can start playing with screen settings?

Yes, that's exactly what you need to do, after that Workbench will load in normal PAL/NTSC

(of course you need to leave PAL/NTSC inside)

If there is no Retina Monitor Driver in Devs/Monitors he might be using Retina Emu drivers, in which case it will be a bit more tricky, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it ;)

Managing to boot up to a PAL screen now on my telly. Theres a Retina folder and when I click on RetinaEmu, the telly goes blank and the VGA displays (albiet in what looks like a lo res screen)

Whats the next step to get something like 1024x786 going?

First, rid the RetinaEMU from the system partition. You can compact the drawer to a lha file if you want to make some tests later.

Then install Picasso96 and check this tutorial on how to create video modes for your video card.

I'm having similar issues, I installed the newest P96 I could find on top of CWB. The card is displayed as WORKING in the early boot menu, but my Amiga gets a guru when booting WB now :o
If I boot into CWB "safe mode", then I can start Picasso96Mode. But when I try to "attach" the card to a screen mode, the popup menu says "no card found". Any ideas?

What Classic Workbench version are you using? Some (namely ADV SP) don't seem to like RTG, maybe due to some installed components.

You're best off modifying the Classic Workbench P96 release. (i.e remove uaegfx monitor & uae AHI files then reinstall Picasso96)

Or use Classic Workbench OS3.9, it's known to work well with Picasso96 :thumbsup:
