Games showcase
So I have finally managed to arrange a shelf for showcasing games. There are a couple exceptions but almost all of these games are very important to me, they have a story behind them. Either a part or stage of my life or a memory of a friend or just that the game is purely so great that it deserves to be there.
Okay so letīs get going with a couple of overview shots:
http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/5908/overview1v.jpg
I canīt give one big overview shot because lower part of the shelf is still obstructed by a corner of my sofa, so hereīs the upper part. Oh by the way, this shelf is right in front of a window. A window that never must be opened and which must always be obstructed by thick darkening curtains so that no annoying light enters the room to be mirrored from my screens. Instead of a window out of my room you see a window into my very heart and soul: My games showcase.

And the lower part.
Couple of closer looks at the very top of the shelf

Top left there is Fast Striker for Dreamcast, below it Dark Souls and Halo collection for 360. Sacrifice for me is the end of PC big box games era. After that it was dvd cases. Heroes of Might and Magic is very significant to me and my wife too, with the Armageddonīs Blade expansion pack for third installment being imo the high point of the series. Got to have a bit of Jagged Alliance, love the whole series but Iīm highlighting one of the rarer games and one of the best looking boxes in the series. Disciples series is a bit like Heroes and itīs very addictive. For Dreamcast games, Sega Rally and Crazy Taxi were the coin op games I had in the "soldier home" when I was in the army. Basically, much of the little free time there went playing these two. Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter were very significant to me earlier on when I still cared about fighter games. F355 and MSR are practically new games to me but very good even today. Well I have played the PGR series though and this MSR is the prequel... maybe best of the series!

Ah...Civilization... only parts 1,4 and 5 here but that doesnīt mean I donīt like 2 and 3, only during the days of 2 and 3 I didnīt exactly buy games :)
Resident Evil series is something I also really like, in fact RE 2 is my favourite of the series but dreamcast version doesnīt improve on the ps1 version, which sadly I donīt have any more. Code Veronica is the sequel to that so here it is. I am a NFL junkie and thereīs no better NFL game than BLITZ. I had to give Sonic a spot. I will have here Grandia 2 and Skies of Arcadia replacing something here. And I think I will have to try and get Fatal Fury (Garou) Mark of the Wolves because if I am going to have fighter games here, I might as well have the very best.

Some miscellaneous PPC Amiga and cdrom games here.
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6114/furries.jpg
Fury of the Furries. I played the demo on my pc way back when, never managed to get the full game but I remembered this often, not remembering the name of the game, just knowing that there was that game with furry balls and one of them had a ninja rope. Finally managed to get the Amiga version after looking for it for quite a while.
http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/60/turrican.jpg
Without any hesitation I will place Gunlord right next to Turricans 2 and 3. Oh and as I said, T1 is still missing.
http://img594.imageshack.us/img594/9988/microprose.jpg
The Amiga Microprose corner. Though my pc version of civ1 is budget box, the Amiga version is the beautiful original box. Grand Prix is from A600 bundle, would like to replace it with a proper big box. Gunship box has suffered a bit. Countless hours poured into all these games.
http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/966/bullfrogq.jpg
The Bullfrog shelf. All of these I originally played on a pc but now I have the miggy versions in nice boxes.
http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/5...gcommander.jpg
Actually I originally played this on SNES and now Iīm playing the hacked cd32 version on A1200... but the box of this ocs version is just awesome with blueprints of spaceships and what not!
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7364/moonstonex.jpg
Perhaps the crown jewel of the collection, certainly the rarest one. Originally I played this on pc but the miggy version is very good. The box has this nice map and a manual worth reading (carefully) Unfortunately thereīs slight damage to the box but I can live with it. I managed to play this through for the first time a month ago. Exciting fight with the dragon but I had leveled up almost everything to 5 and I had wyrm amulets so the poor reptilian never knew what hit him :)
http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/5...apbrothers.jpg
Bitmap Brothers. I played some Gods at my neighbors house back in the day. Chaos engine is in fact all new to me, well I heard about it a lot during the years but only recently got to play it. Itīs still good, much better than the sequel. Speedball 2 would belong right here.
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/3484/pcadventure.jpg
Starting the pc game row we have a collection of Sierra adventure games which brings to my mind a short span of my life living in another city where a friend brought to my attention some of these great games. Also during that time I bought this Alien Incident game which is the first adventure game made in Finnish and also by a Finnish game developer Housemarque.
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3716/balduri.jpg
Baldurīs Gate is the best roleplaying game series. Period. Even my wife loves Baldurīs Gate series because of the story. She hasnīt played games anymore for a while due to kids though she says she would like to play a game with good story. I may need to arrange some time for her
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/8463/miscrpg.jpg
Miscellaneous pc RPGs here. Each has 100 hours poured into them. KoDP is such a timeless classic they even recently made ipad version of it.
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7246/witcher2v.jpg
This is the game that made me believe in modern pc gaming once more. Best thing on pc since Baldurīs Gate, though I was left wanting for more after this short experience.
http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/5...eletonkrew.jpg
A good game for showcasing what a bog standard AGA Amiga can do. Never heard of this one until recently and its a decent game.
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/8138/pinballe.jpg
Two of my favourite pinball games. Pinball dreams has a huge history of me playing it on pc and on my friendīs pc with countless attempts at breaking the high score. That said, Slamtilt is the better game with superior physics and definitive table: Mean Machines.
http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/2631/wgh.jpg
Played this on my neighbours amiga back in the day. Couldnīt get enough of it. Managed to get these ones new and sealed and they will stay that way.
http://img805.imageshack.us/img805/340/ufoi.jpg
The one Microprose game that deserved its own shelf. Iīm a huge fan of anything Gollop.
http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/1614/crapy.jpg
Now what this game represents for me is hype and disappointment. Duke Nukem Forever would fit nicely in the same shelf and I think it can soon be had for cheap enough price even in the Balls of Steel edition.
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/5040/dune2z.jpg
The grand daddy of modern RTS and Iīm a big RTS junkie. Only most of my recent RTS games have been bought digital.
http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/9410/battlestorm.jpg
Well this one is actually less meaningful one to me, might sell it eventually and get something better to fill this slot. Itīs an okay shooter, nothing more. So its on the lower shelf which is not so easy to see - also obviously the diskette is broken.
http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/3603/wormsn.jpg
Last but not least I have a box of worms. Played this on one of my friendīs 486 back in the day. Played it a lot. Sadly, the original disks for this miggy version are missing.
So there you have it. While I still donīt have every game that I want to show there and on the other hand a couple of these games arenīt that important to me. Iīd very much like to have Turrican 1 there and maybe some other classics. Iīd get Shadow of the Beast to replace Battlestorm if I could and while Skeleton Krew is pretty nice game, I donīt really have a history with it. Also I intend to change the curtains to something more classy like a theatre style curtain to give better background to the games. Bigger curtains that would block almost the whole wall from sight, not only the window.
Thanks for looking!

Nice collection I shamefully don't have enough room..... :x

Awesome, indeed. Well organized and all.
Just a tip: Dune II have a CD-ROM version for pc with digitized voices. Worth to have one.

Thereīs a new challenger!

Iīm also waiting for Skies of Arcadia to arrive and then I will have to make decisions as to which pal DC games to put to the secondary storage shelf...

Wish I had the room for proper display of some of my games. Looks good mendel:)

OMG how did I miss this thread, that has to be one of the best collections I have seen setup like that. Well done m8, proper good job. Mine are just sitting on the floor atm but you have given me a nice idea now of how to set mine up. I am liking the fact you have Witcher 2 out on show :) Arcanum is another classic. Not heard of King of Dragon Pass before, is that PC?

I have the pc version of King of Dragon Pass but I think there was also a mac version.
These days I reckon itīs a bit rare gem for having hit neither GOG nor Steam but you can get it for IOS now. I would highly recommend the Ipad version.
