Spectrum Z80 UIDE Rev 3.1E - 8bit IDE Adapter

Hello my fellow AmiBayers

Recently I had some bad luck with my local post-office - this lead to some problems requiring me to have some more adapters built to cover the losses. I cannot thank those buyers enough for their patience.

This has left me with a few of these

I designed this last year, but I was not going to build any more, sadly because of the above I had no choice in the matter and had some made in February.

Fortunately I have had some compensation recently from Royal Mail on the matter as such I am able to put a couple of these aside as a prize for a Raffle on AmiBay - later in the year.

This new 3.1e adapter has micro jumpers to select the operation mode - much like the solder jumpers of the previous design but not so permanent.

The adapter supports an NMI header

This is a completely de-bounced port for a switch - this us supported by Pera's 48k / 128k PPROM, and allows the loading and saving of save states.


The Configuration of the adapter has two banks of jumpers

To select the configuration of the adapter you just swap the jumpers from E0, E1 and E2 to P0, P1 and P2 - very simple.

Totally understandable, the Spectrum 128k (Toast Rack) is a special computer, even I would feel uncomfortable desoldering IC's and planting sockets - I still do it.... but it comes with risks and its wise to err on the side of caution.

I'm interested with roms for zx spectrum 48k

Has someone tried to fit Zetro's adapter inside a 48k Rubber Key Spectrum or is it too slim ?

Sorry for the late reply my friend, sadly I have been suffering from a nasty infection. Parcels were sent Last week, Monday and Wednesday. I have some more to send this afternoon.

Yes true Zetr0 don't respond to PM any more. Any way I hoppe the health problem was nothing serious, more then one month was passed since I pay the Z80 IDE.:oops:

sorry for the off topic but Mr Z you need to send me your address as I have those 2 spectrum manuals for you.

Also with this interface does it work on a +2 grey and if so does it require any soldering.

I'm guessing you'd need a CF card for this, but is there another piece of kit you'd need as well to get a hard drive up and running?

I just picked up a +2A without cables at a charity shop last weekend.

I'm interested in one set (controller + rom) if available.

It is with great pleasure that i can finally announce that i received mine today.

However, as is sometimes the case, Murphy's Law prevents me from installing it immediately, as i am in the middle of a move (temporarily) while my apartment is being renovated/rebuilt, so it seems unlikely that i will have opportunity to install it for a few months.

Bonus!! charity shops FTW!!!, I love the +2A / B (black) models, they really look the part and with an internal IDE they truly are beasts of deliciousness!

You can use a CF card, as these are small and easy to implement but you can use pretty much anything (non atapi) on the 8bit IDE bus. I have here some 4GB microdrives (CF type II) that work well, as well as a 60GB 2.5" IDE hard disk *(yes 60GB!!!) - although I should say that you only get to access 28.6GB of storage.... for shame.... =/ ;)

Hi could I have one of the spectrum +3 ones as I have been waiting for tech shack too get them on there web site and still on joy could you please let me know how too pay for this and the total also could you tell me if you can still use the disk drive on the spectrum when I put this in and one last thing is there any thing else I will need too get this working
