Joystick/Mouse auto-switcher

Joystick/Mouse auto-switcher - Was £10, then £7, then £5, then £4, now £3+p&p to clear

This device switches between the mouse and joystick with a click or fire button press. This could be the Evesham Micros device, but I am not sure, as at some point the label fell off. Board says "Ashcom Design and Developments"

This device did not seemed to get on with my Amiga 1200, but it did work more or less with my A500 circa 1992. From memory this unit occasional fired out a click if the mouse was moved very quickly. It may be an interesting small project to correct this behaviour.

Price dropped.

Do you think it would work okay with a Vic 20 or C64? I would have presumed so but if it plays up with your 1200 maybe it's not a guarantee... Is it possible for you to try it out, at all? :)

I'm afraid I do not have a Vic 20, C64, or mouse for either machine to test it with.

Ah well, I'll ask around elsewhere to see if I can find anything out. If it does work on the Vic in particular then I'm interested. :)

These kind of switchers are incompatible with C64/C128.
I have a similar for my A600, I tried it with my c128, using a 1581 mouse, it blocks some keys from the keyboard, I think it mess the CIA chip.

Since I have my A500 to please, want to be next in line of course.. To be honest do not see why it would not work with C64 or VIC20, I would figure, it tricks the same analog signals:huh:

I don't want to slash on anyone's fireworks here, but I think a little caution should be applied. If it isn't compatible with an A1200, then it isn't really compatible with any Amiga, it's that easy. All the Amigas use the same ports & as mentioned earlier, this could seriously screw the one of the CIA Chips.

Whoever considers trying this, be aware it could make your Amiga a half dead donkey. :|
As it isn't definitely known to be an Amiga Expansion (it would work 100% if it was) perhaps this might be better off in Other Hardware.

This is definitely an Amiga expansion, purchased by my Dad (most likely from Evesham Micros), and it did work in my A500 (although as mentioned a click was occasionally fired out if you moved the mouse quickly). It is not an item of unknown provenance.

I have tried it in my Amiga 1200, but I do not have a decent mouse to extensively test it. From memory in the A500 you could put the joystick and mouse in either port, but in the A1200 it seems you have to have the mouse in one port and the joystick in the other. This is why I stated that "it did not seem to get on" with my A1200. To be honest, it could have operated that way in the A500 as well, and I had just forgotten.

So, can we establish exactly who is interested in this item please?

Pedro, can you clarify whether you were expressing interest in this item. It is not entirely clear from your post as you qualify it by saying you are only expressing interest if it works with the Vic 20, and this is something I will not be able to establish. And it is a piece of Amiga hardware, advertised in the Amiga category, not Vic-20 hardware.
