HI All. I have bought a ACA 1220 Accelerator (16MHZ), as it has 128MB on-board, and it was the only board that was in stock. Anyway. I was wondering, is the CPU soldered in, or in a socket..

soldered. but not too difficult to de-solder :-)
Ok. But Bummer!! I was hoping that it was socketed in (Though that would be too easy), as I was thinking of replacing it with a faster one (Later on). To remove it, I'll have to cut it out in small bits (My trustie dremel tool might do that) then remove all the pins. One by one. That way the pads won't get damaged (or a solder pot). Oh what's the other set of pads for a FPU?? (Your up late eh??)
Mike..
The other Solder pads are for a 68030, as its the same board for the ACA1220 and ACA1232. just with different chips and I guess firmware.
really if you have a solder iron / braid it's not difficult to desolder. a few pins, some patience, but it's been done :-)
Well I have a Solder sucker that plugs in. But maybe a solder pot would get it out in one piece.. they are between $16 and $30 in eBay..
Anyway Here's my lastest Amiga project. A mini AT PC PSU inside a Amiga PSU case. It's rated at 150 Watt's, so plenty for my 1200 and the 20Gb real hard-drive fitted inside, plus the memory card (My Commodore Amiga Collection is on 9 DVD images and a USB Stick too) . But I just had to fit a fan, cos it got pretty warm inside.. And it turns on without being plugged into my Amiga too (I thought it needed a small load to turn on)..

Guys back to the topic. if I wanted to fit a MC68030. Would it work right away or need a new firmware. Anyone???
ACA1220 almost certainly has a different firmware.
ACA1232 isn't that more expensive, once you pay for the MC68030 and fitting you would be almost there.
Ok steve Though I would have bought the ACA1232. But it's not in stock (Like all the other board's). That's why I ordered the ACA1220 instead. I'll just have to fit a 25MHz cpu then, and I'll be happy with that. (A socket will be soldered in first), as I do like the large memory that the board has...

Ok Steve But I did notice that there's a Jtag header pads on the board (I have a USB jtag programmer with WebPACK_82i_ProgTools ). Does anyone know the header pad connections are. Also is there anyway I can get the 680c30 firmware??
