MultiMega Modding :)
Hi all, I snapped this MultiMega up over at the other bay as the seller said he couldn't get a picture when trying to tune it in. It came with psu, controller and rf cable. Turned out the RF cable doesn't work and an rgb scart solved the problems. Now I like my systems to be multiregion so as not to restrict what I want to play so off I went to find out about the MultiMega.
i came across wolfsoft's blog showing the multi-region mod.
it requires disabling the inboard bios and then attaching 38 short wires to a 27C4096 EPROM chip and also wiring in the switchless pic chip. I also had to desoldering the LCD and replace the LEDs with bi-colour ones. Sadly the LCD didn't work before and still doesn't but the LEDs work fine.
its by far the fiddliest work I've done so far but I enjoyed doing it and it works fine.
i stole the EPROM from my mega cd 2 as I don't have a spare at the moment but will replace that one soon.
anyway on to some pics

Damn.... I was considering getting that done to my MM but that looks rather messy in there. Think I will just leave it as it is for now, I might pay someone to mod it later.

Great Stuff :) It does look a bit fiddly are both chips just hovering above the board? I too have a muilti mega :D

Nice work mate
and I'm jealous of the machine to :p

The chips are held down with some double sided tape and the wires are hot glued. I agree it looks messy but it's all internal so can't be seen.

i think i would of made a board to mount all that lot and had a few fly leads coming form that.
still,its a good mod.

That's great mate, Do you think you will ever be able to get the LCD's working again? You did make the wiring look like the red weeds from war of the worlds but it's a nice mod.

Great work, there. I didn't know that Multi-Mega modding was a possibility, now - the last time I looked into it (which was an absolute age ago, admittedly), it was considered next-to-impossible, and to my knowledge nobody had ever done it.
They're lovely machines (used to have one myself), so it's nice to see that they can be made more flexible.
Just curious, does it also have a 50Hz/60Hz switch?
