Slim optical drive

OK - time for dumbass question here:

I am going to be using a cable to connect my IDE express to the Adapter plugged into the back of the DVD drive.
The adapter requires a 44 pin IDE connection (fine) and the IDE Express requires a 40 pin IDE for the secondary channel. Now, I have a cable that does this, using a molex to add the power into the 44 pin IDE connector.
The power will come from the Floppy connector. presumably this needs the 5v lines (black and red)? rather then the yellow cable on the floppy drive?

you are correct just need a Y floppy splitter with one female molex cable on it which I take you have ordered

I have made one up from various cables I have. With all my last minute changes I seem to be gaining a collection....if the sata to ide adapter arrives tomorrow, then hopefully I can try it out, before then finalising cable lay outs at the weekend.

OK - Next question - I have the drive connected, it powers up, its set as master on the secondary channel, so what now.
Running the IDE-Fix Find device programme, it shows up under both scsi and atapi as unit 3 with the correct product id etc.
Do I need to install something?

Obviously I have hit a few hurdles, although I have made some progress.
I had to reinstall IDE-Fix 97 to get all the CD stuff recognised, but now it seems to see it.
I am getting 2 icons on the desktop - one is uninitialised though.

If it's a Game CD with Audio you should get 2 Icons, one is for the data and the other is for the CDDA Audio.

I was just experimenting really - if I put in an OS3.9 disc I get 2 icons, one for the disc and one for the Emergency Boot disk. I actually then put in a MeatLoaf CD (its the wife's) - I dont think it had any extras but will check tonight - which gave me 2 icons - I cannot see anything extra in Devs/Dosdrivers. Only reinstalled IDE-Fix97 this morning before leaving for work so have not had time to play much.

If the os3.9 cd was working fine then I guess you are all set. Enjoy.

The miggy is still rather in bits at the moment though - I have quite a bit of work to do to put it back together and route cables a little better once I am happy its all fully functional. Then I can take some pics for the blog!

Final pics now up on my Amibay blog! Thanks for all the help guys.

Just to add one more point that I am quite pleased with, I am merrily playing music CDs through the amiga now using EasyAcdda from Aminet. No messing around with mixers or connections or soldering etc. It might only be possible due to the blizzard 1260 and lots of memory that I am running, so might not work for everyone, but it is definitely working here.
I do have some more questions in due course that I will post in another thread.

Yeah, just got the side fan to fit and then find some white feet to replace the black ones and apart from a few software queries I will be done for a few months I reckon.
First post has been edited a bit, just need someone with god like / mod like powers to make it happen.......
