My First C64 Breadbox :)
Thanks to Manic23 I have my first C64 Breadbox :)
She needs a little clean-up but a nice little setup:
Attachment 74464
Of course I've already stripped her down!
Attachment 74463
Internally the Motherboard is in pristine condition
Attachment 74462
I'm hoping the socket chip is the one I need to install Jiffy Dos?
The Tape Deck is clean inside too, the internals just lift out so I've cleaned the case too!
Attachment 74461
I'm astounded with how clean the case has come up, the keyboard was not even very dusty so just a wipe over and blew out the dust with compressed air.
You'll have to wait for the after pics as I've got the case parts in the Airing Cupboard drying out
Oh, I also cleaned up an A1200 I picked up at Revival, it looks fantastic too so I will share pics later, the keyboard is just out Sunbathing!

looks good steve , the Kernal ROM is the one to change.:-)
random web pics below.....
usually its soldered to the board....
-
The socketed chip is the SID. The DOS ROM is the centre chip of the row of three shorter chips at the top.
Bryce.

if no-one else offer's steve i'll desolder the kernal rom and fit a socket if you have jiffydos already.(its the hardest part of the installation)
it looks like a assembly 250407 board, have you tried it yet bud?
also,on the board where you can see the large metal cover(not the rf modulator) it doubles as a heatsink for the vic,if you can change the thermal paste, the vic gets hot.

Thanks for the advice chaps, not tested yet but will do once the case is dry and I've rebuilt it.
Thanks for the offer Roy, I might take you up on that, where can I get jiffy dos?
-
you can buy the files and burn the rom yourself,or get a pre-made hardware package from various sellers on the net including ebay.
but make sure its for the c64 you have and not the c64 model c,it fits a different socket.

You can get Jiffy Dos from Jim Brain buddy

What type of C64 Power supply did you get with machine buddy?
Just a tip that 64 power supplies can be flaky my friend, just need to make sure the voltages are reading loud and clear :-)
Great find by the way :-)

Send us the mobo if you wish and I will install jiffydos for you :)

Thanks guys. PSU is the black brick (looks like CD32 PSU) but I was just going to use my known working C64 PSU for initial tests.
Case is still airing out lol.
@Bas, might take you (or Roy) up on the offer, also @Bas do you still have any matching Disk Drives in stock?
I should have a Disk drive on Monday but it's the smaller version (apologies I'm a C64 noob still)

1541 II?
i would be dubious about the black brick supply bud.
