Hi tbtorro,
I am interested to recap a Macintosh SE/30 that doesn't produce sound anymore and to do some socket repair + recap work in a A1000 cpu upgrade and a A1200 phase5 68040 to 68060 cpu upgrade. What's the next step to have this evaluated and done ? About recaps I have seen in Japan someone recaping Macintosh boards with tantalum caps to prevent future leaks what do you think about that?
Regards
Ruben
Hi Ruben, I'm sending a PM about your work details.
As for tantalum capacitors, I'm on the opinion that they should be only used on boards, and at locations where they were designed to be tantalum. So I would not use them in place of electrolytic capacitors. This is discussed here in more detail.
Thank you ! :-)
Today's assigment was an A3640 recap and checkup.

Work started on Amon_RA's A4000 Rev D. Unfortunately the audio right side is mute, probably due leaking filter caps cut some traces at the output:

Amon_RA's audio repair complete, lost one side due to corrosion caused by leaking capacitors.
The sound is nice and clear on both sides now, after and before:

Thought I would let everyone know that both my A1200 + A600 that tbtorro replaced the capacitors are like new and working great once more. As you see from the photos his work is excellent.
Amon_RA's SIMM socket upgrade underway. LOTs of pins to desolder (and then solder again) :)
