Help a n00b with first time BPPC installation

This will be a bit long :D

Got a little something in the mail today called a BPPC :)
In the past week I've done lots of research & found many thread in different forums on the subject, but they all differ in their advice, there is (to my knowledge) no definitive how-to.

My starting point is an A1200 1D4 (KS3.0) with an 030 accelerator & CWB3.0 installed on an HDD.
For now, I'd like to keep the existing WB on this machine (will upgrade to OS3.9 at some point).

What should I install/change/do before plugging the BPPC in this 1200?

1) Will an A500 PSU (4.5A) be enough for this card?
2) KS version - will it work with 3.0 or do I need BlizzKick with 3.1 ?
3) What version of 68040/060 libs should I install? should it be done BEFORE plugging in the card?
4) Should I flash the BPPC card to the latest (best?) version? which one is it?
5) What else should I install before being able to use the card properly? (warpos, bppcfix, ppclib emu, etc etc...)

I have a lot more questions, but this will do for now :coffee:

Firstly I would recommend upgrading to real 3.1 KS roms. Also don't try to use the bppc with the A500 PSU, I don't think it would be a great idea... unless someone else confirms that he/she has done it and it is OK , just don't try it since you might damage your hardware...

as for the rest, YES you need to install the libs BEFORE installing the card in order to avoid crashes. There is no need to upgrade the firmware at all, unless you use a bvision/g-rex and you have problems (remember that only revision 2 cards work OK with g-rex) , and you can install warpOS/bppcfix/etc after booting without probs

If you have the big brick A500 PSU then you are ok to go. Meaning you don't supply more than the mobo+BPPC+CF Card+Floppy. If you wanna supply to a CD-ROM+3.5" HD then better switch to a better PSU (like an AT or ATX).

I had this solution before I upgraded to a PicoPSU (with lotsa stuff in). But for mobo+BPPC+CF+Floppy you're ok.

Is KS3.1 a must for the BPPC? I read the manual and it mentions KS3.0 as a minimum.
Also, I thought relocating KS to RAM is preffered for performance. Am I wrong?

The machine has an HDD, not CF, so will need a little more juice.
I'll probably wont risk it & build an ATX->Amiga adaptor anyway.

yes, in my experience actual 3.1 roms work better with a bppc (or csppc) ... you might get away since you only have a bppc and no other hardware attached like rtg card, but physical 3.1 KS is just preferred ;) softkicking works but it was a last couple of decades solution for ppl not to pay for new KS LOL LOL LOL

Will this board play nice with an unmodified 2B mobo?

you must try it , but I am almost certain you will be OK
supposedly there are a couple of "timing fixes" that need to be applied for a 060 cpu , but I think you will get away with it because phase5 stuff are of the best quality :thumbsup:
your main concern IMHO for now is to get a nice psu to give juice to your nice amiga :)

Looks like I'm in need of some more help :)
Together with the BPPC I received an untested BVision card.
Today I installed them both for the first time (yes, I know I should've tested the PPC by itself first...).

First of all, is the BVision and some ICs on the BPPC supposed to get insanely hot after just ~30 seconds of work?
I put a heat-sink on the Permedia2 chip & it gets so hot I cant touch it!

Anyway, this is what happens now, when connected to the composite output (dont have a complete VGA cable for the BVision yet):

- Boot without HDD - purple screen with nothing on it, floppy drive clicks
- Boot from HDD with CWB3.0 and 68060 system-disk installed (68040/60 libs + some other stuff that got installed with it).
In this case the screen either remains black or sometimes light gray, nothing else happens.

There are no drivers installed for the BVision, so I assumed the system will work as usual via the AGA chipset.

Is what I'm seeing normal?

Just to add...

Booting with both mouse buttons pressed - wither black or light gray screen.
Booting with "2" pressed (to disable the PPC) - black screen

Sometimes when booting, there are flashes of what looks like graphics junk on the screen, it appears for a few seconds then its back to a black screen...

Just tried without the BVision.
CWB starts to load, the upper WB bar appears for a second or two, then it either goes black or gfx garbage again...

Think I'll give up for today, I hope the BPPC isnt faulty :(

Think you'll need to give us some more details about your setup and what powersupply your using?

I had this card in the powertower with full mediator 3.1 roms and using os3.9 and the only time it ever displayed a black screen was due to the card not receiving enough power. but this was sorted by giving it a spare floppy power feed.

That is perfectly normal. Permedia gets ULTRA hot even in some seconds. Along with that the 2 chips right from the Permedia also get very hot. For safety putting heatsink+Fan and heatsink on the other 2 chips is almost essential.

As for the rest things you mentioned... my first guess is that your PSU doesn't provide the necessary Amps/Watts for making system stable. Supplying power from an AT or ATX PSU is definitely the way to go, and as Nasty said... Also providing power to the floppy connector header HELP TONS in systems that have BPPC and BVision!!!
