CD32 Tantalum full re-cap

Thought I will just show one of my Cd32`s I recapped with tantalum capacitors, will sell a couple of these systems in the new year :) so keep em peeled !

I `ve done a few CD32`s with normal caps and its a ball ache, so got some tantalums together and if the board is nice and damage free it will take a couple of hours , I clean everything and take care removing the old caps,then clean pads with chem-wick and when installing the new tantalums use plenty of Flux as you know mike so they get nice and `wet` when soldering :)
tantalums its the best way to go I think especially with our CD32`s as they are leaking badly on them now :(

well done and yes the cd32 is a scum bag to recap ...

I've never done a full tat recap , I've 3/4 done my 1200 but thats easy by comparison the 32.

cap size is dictated by the space between the pads.

yes they are:

4.7uf 25v x4.....case size B
10uf 35v x4..... " " B
22uf 35v x5..... " " C
47uf 25v x5..... " " C
100uf 16v x9..... " " C

I have a poor unloved CD32 board here... still not sure whether to let it go or keep it?

Also! what kinda of benefit would this be to an a1200 and are you able to do one? I had two a1200's done with normal standards... but this Tantalum thing has got my interest :)

If the CD32 board is in good nick and there has been no leaking caps or minimal leakage go for it !, the problem is with CD32 if the caps have leaked badly then the pads beneath them corrode and when trying to remove them the heat normally lifts them because of the poor bonding adheasive used of the pads to the breadboard :(.

As Mike said the A1200 is easily recapped as there are not many caps :)
And the benefit is obvious tantalum will never leak , and as for the through hole Electrolytics I have not seen a leaking one yet on a A1200.
