Amiga 3000 Mouse No Longer Responds

Hey there guys. So, there is something wrong with my mouse port. It no longer responds to the movement of the mouse. The buttons still respond, but there is no movement possible. If I pull the connector out of the socket almost all the way and wiggle it, the cursor will move very slightly, but that's it. Please note I've tried a few mice now with no change in symptoms so it's not the mouse. The only change I made was to add a new battery. I had removed the old one a while ago, now I put a cordless phone battery pack in it's place (3.6v 800mA) and reassembled the tower to be greeted with a non-movable tower. Any ideas?

Chances are it's one of 2 things (maybe 3).

Firstly: It could be a capacitor that has gone.

Secondly: It could be that your mouse port is faulty (some soldering may have come away).

Thirdly (maybe): There could be a fault to whatever chip(s) control the mouse movements and/or input, though I would have no idea about that and its a complete stab in the dark. The other 2 are very likely possibilities though.

The chip that control mouse movement is Paula (and not CIA, as someone can think).

BTW: she lives too near the dreaded battery and its leakage.

I'll swap the Paula, but first I'll have a look at the solder joints and such first though.

No. Only partialy for some special joy, pad type.

Inspect mainboard from solder side for bad solders at joy port 0.

After with a multimeter check at pin 7 and pin 8 for +5vdc. At this point you must be very careful.

If all the above doesn't work, then U401 74LS157 type may be defective.:)

For the very last you must check the Denice ic.

Again: Paula is responsible for detecting mouse movements and the right button of mouse.

CIA is used for joystick (all but second button or CD32 multi-buttons).

From the schematics we see cause the Paula is responsible for the middle and right mouse button only. This achieves through the POTX and POTY lines.

For the other movements were used the four joystick lines who goes to quad 2 inputs multiplexer U401 74LS157, and after communicate with Denice ic through the M1V- M1H- M0V- MOH lines.

Last the left mouse button is controlled from U350 CIA 8520 type from the FIR0 and FIR1 lines.

Perhaps we dont read the same schematic diagram?:huh:

how does your board looks? any broken capacitors or something? some green color unter the chips? :unsure:
