I wish you a marry christmas!
I wonder if santa remember my "wish" ;)
Ok pre-orders are closed since today. Production is started few days ago. In 4 weeks we will be able to start sending latest version of the Vampire with latest version of the apollo-core inside. Bug reports are expected from future users. Final, probably higher price of the Vampire 600 V2 card will be determined later and this will not make any kind of influence to the people who participated in pre-orders. This will happen because card will be on sale in verified Amiga shops. I ll try my best to save some videos tomorrow and publish them on my site.
Brilliant news exciting times ;)
Great stuff Majsta and the news on the Apollo forums of A500 and A1200 version coming soon :D I'll be having one of each :D
is it true 128mb ram on vampire A600 V2 ?
Yes it is true, like I said I ll try to show some videos today. 128 meg is not implemented in core yet but it will be in matter of days. In hardware we have 2 chips, each 64 meg.
I'm too waiting for the Vampire 500 :)
I'm too anxiously waiting on all the Vampire implementations.
But meanwhile is it possible to use the A600 vampire in the A500 or A2000?
Or are there hardware restrictions?
Simply they're not chip compatible ;)
Could someone supply the link to the news about the A500 version of the Vampire, or would it be worthwhile creating a new topic altogether to discuss other versions of the Vampire ?
@Kyle,
Thanks for your answer mate.
What did you mean by 'not chip compatible'?
I was browsing masjta's site and didn't find anything about the installation.
Is this a drop in 68k socket solution like the ide68k?
If this is the way to install then what incompatible chip is blocking the use in an A500/A2000?
Take a look at the 68k chip in the 600, then take a look at the 68k chip in the 500/2000. See any difference? :)

Actualy... if square vs rectangel use the same pins/amount. Its pretty simple.
Solder wires back of the vampires 68k socket. And sort out where every wire should fit in a500/2000 socket.
If this isnt a problem. The vampire 600 /aca6x0
Is one of the most compatible accelerators made :)
And ofc if its still hole trough socket on vampire.
I wrote number of times that Amiga 600 accelerators can't be used in A500 or somewhere else and reasons are not just socket related DIP or PLCC, they are technical nature.
About Vampire 500, maybe it's too early speaking about that, but is it possible to reduce its dimension in order to make it CDTV compatible?
I am hoping they reduce the dimension so it is MegaChip compatible. That is my concern to be honest.

I think you are too late, pre-orders are closed. And as I've predicted price goes up before it could go down: when you go from "hobby" to "commercial product" you find out that suddenly you need to pay for a lot of additional things (commercially-produced stuff could be cheaper, too - when you go to hundreds of thousands or millions price goes down again because of scale, but, well, I don't think accelerators for Amiga 600 could by sold by millions :()
VMA,VPA,E for start then some other stuff...
@danwood_uk yes pre-orders are closed for now
@khimru yes game rules changes quickly. Let me compare few things. On first version of the Vampire I could buy lot of parts in my own city for it, now it is nearly impossible to get anything because this is like 100 times complex than old vampire in every way,. Also demand is higher now and used parts are way more expensive than before. Last night I was soldering 60USD paid FPGA on this so imagine how much that cost in total when you have many pre-orders. The same time I was lucky that I didn't pay for single FPGA up to 120USD. And the same time I have bunch of those from Ebay paid 15USD who does not work. Imagine, from one shipment of 20 FPGA only 2 worked so it is really risky game i have reported on Altera forum in detail. You ask for replacement and then he send you bunch of others who does not work also. Bunch of fake ones, or damaged on JTAG side so even if you use higher resistor values you can't detect them. What about the parts who are left behind in process of changing design, expensive parts who will never be used. This morning also I had a call from DHL and customs and need to pay 27% tax on my huge shipment who is stuck on airport and waiting for clearance for last 5 days. So all morning I was preparing papers and talking on the phone. This time and manufacturing this is not just a hobby game, this become more serious. At the end you realize that you are doing much more paperwork, going to the bank, customs than just designing or soldering.
Majsta : I also would like to say thank you for all your efforts. Indeed thanks should also go to all who have worked with you on this.
Majsta just get the sender of the goods to correct the value of the goods on import invoice then it shouldn't be so much as 27% had to do it many times with stupid companies in China
Hope this helps

Majsta Also, I don't mind paying 5 euro more for my order for getting my goods to uk in fact I will volunteer perhaps if we all pay a little more in freight you can cut your losses a bit cheers

Ok Someone think of a way to set this up so we can get this message out to everyone who has pre-ordered it
any amiboard moderators/admins watching ?

Agree as well
Majsta are you able to edit the initial post with an update explaining this to all who has pre-ordered it?
Just wanted to add to Majesta that all the work is truly appreciated, even from someone who doesn't own an A600. I have followed this thread closely and am utterly amazed at what has been created here.
It is sad that there has to be a cross over from a true hobby and hands on project to a red tape filled paperwork nightmare.
I hope that your amazing work continues, and if there are ever products for some of the Amigas I own, you can be sure I will pay what they are worth to buy one from you.
Best regards
hello my friend, i have the vampire v1 and i would like to by the version 2....still open the pre-order?...thanks
Thanks Deanp...Do you know it will get another list of pre order?
@Ricardo, probably not. Pre-orders have been closed and what I understood from Majsta the card will be for sale after pre-orders have been build but at a higher price.
Congrats to the Team! Seems like Christmas to me...
@Rakeim132, I fully agree :thumbsup:
Just imagine if this card would have been available in the early 90's... :-)
Agree, too. I think Majsta could just send a PM with explanation to buyers when cards will be ready.
No need to demand anything (that would just be wrong: a deal is a deal, after all), but he could just list the members who paid “miscalculations money” and who refused to do that on first page. AmiBay is reputation-centered community, I think it'll work. Just take a look on a list and you'll know what to expect from the person: is he a someone who's easy and pleasant to deal with or is he someone who'll kill for nickel.
On the other hand I really hope Ricardo zaca wouldn't be left behind: he already paid to help Majsta with his hobby once before (and now has mostly useless piece of hardware to show for it), he shouldn't be sent away to commercial vendors just because he was a bit late.
Yeah, true. There are always a tension between hobbyists and commercial vendors but still the Amiga community works somehow which is really amazing.
Can someone please explain what this is about? Ive only just checked back here today.Quote:

trydowave : I think this should explain things, doing a project of this scale has and is being a learning curve for Majsta . That doing something like this is new for Majsta, so may not have been aware of customs charges involved. Majsta shouldn't be out of pocket on something that benefits all those that have pre-ordered, so another member suggested somewhere in this thread , we each pay more so to cover costs.
Hope this explains.
So its about custom charges and nothing to do with Majsta then? If that's the case then you can expect this to happen with any shipment coming into the UK. (not sure about other countries) How much are you being asked to pay? I only ask as i'm constantly skint and Christmas is coming up.
I believe so, someone suggested each pay 5 euros, but nothing has been said by Majsta on this yet. See page 48 onwards for users suggestions.
sounds reasonable
When I have declared my interest, the amount was 90€ if I remember well.
Later, when Majsta has announced that the price evolved at 120€, I have immediately sent a new payment to cover the difference.
I know that an another member has done the same.
If Majsta has some new fees, I'm okay to send a new payment, 5€, 10€ or more, it's not a problem.
It's a great project, it's not logic that Majsta loses money with its baby!
Hi sorry about confusion, and have no idea how its started, not by me and I m certain in that. There is no need to someone send more money to me. All is covered I was just talking about next run of cards who is not related to this pre-order. What happened is that customs butchered me. You won't believe but got another letter from them hour ago. What I wanted to explain is that after this pre-order is cleared price could go higher because there is an option to sell this type of cards in verified Amiga shops or somewhere else. So let me conclude once more, whatever happens later has no relation to this pre-order list who is created long time ago and it will be start clearing very soon. I have soldered bunch of cards lately but only partially. If they all work then we are sending them in matter of days, just to finish silver version of the core. Details about the core are explained on apollo-core forum. Also once more I m sorry that I m not writing much. Like I said I m too busy lately and for all the answers you can jump on IRC there is always someone who can answer all of your questions regarding this.
Since there is option that kickstart will be included in flash each person who pre-orderd card will have to save his kickstart 3.1 img and upload it to our FTP so we can use his img in his own Vampire board. Details about the procedure to follow.
